Retires Two Veteran Employes Kennecott Copper Corp. an- nounces the retirement of two local employes, Vern Albert Oliver, 2888 S. 9150 West, Magna, and Theodore R. Simpson, 3474 Westcrest Rd Salt Lake City. Mr. Oliver retired April 1, 1968, and Mr. Simpson on May 1, 1968. Mr. Oliver was hired Sept. 4, 1919, as a car loader at the Ar- thur Concentrator Plant and has been employed as a car loader, operations helper itilityman, and operator and pump station operator. He had also engaged in farming at South Jordan. Mr. Oliver was born July 2, 1901, at South Jordan. He and his wife, Verda, manager of the Magna Cornet keeper, senior acid warehouseman and received a promotion as operations foreman in January, 1965. He had owned and operated a lounge. Mr. Simpson is a member of the Elks Lodge, AAU boxing committee and has worked on various charity groups. He and wife, Catherine, have one daughter and three grandchildren. They are anticipating travel trips and also exploring the desert country. Elder Thomas S. Monson, who is a member of the Alumni Board of Directors and chairman of the Continuing Educational Standing Committee of that board, will keynote the opening program to be held in the auditorium. This Spectrum entertainment, which is free and open to everyone, is the second such program that has been held outside the University of Utah campus. It is open to all residents of the west valley area including Hunter, Granger, Kearns, Magna, West Jordan. The Valley West Committee members working on this program are: J. Leonard Harman, chairman, Dr. Burton F. Brasher, Normand L. Gibbons, Mrs. Rex Packard, Lynn Oberhansley, Ned Winder and Florien J. Win- eriter. The three high school principals of the area have also joined together to put forth every effort for the success of Ben-nio- AMERICAN Mrs. Kochonis was born Oct. 21, 1895, in Piana, Greece, to John and Anastasia Svolos Papanikolas. She married John Kochonis Oct. 4, 1914 in Magna. The fine woman was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Arcadian Orthodox Church, Ladies Society. She had resided in Magna for 54 years.
