May I now apply for a GI Certificate of Eligibility so that I will be able to attend college as soon as I am discharged ? Answer: You cannot receive a Certificate of Eligibility until you have been discharged from the service, because a copy of your discharge paper, DD 214, is required with your application. However, as a serviceman, you are already eligible to participate in the educational assistance program. Question: A statement in my service medical report says that I have a stomach hernia that I received while in the service. Although I was discharged from the Army about five years ago, is it too late for me to file for compensation with the VA? Answer: There is no time limit as to when a veteran may file a claim for compensation for a disease or injury which he believes was incurred while serving in the armed forces. Question: May a nonveteran buy a GI home that has been repossessed and offered for sale by the VA? Answer: Yes. The Veterans Administration has for sale or rent some 14,000 homes which are available to any qualified buyers or renters without regard to their race, color, creed or national origin. Your real estate broker probably will be able to advise you if any VA homes are for sale in your area, since most brokers cooperate with VA in the sale or rental of these properties. Question: I suffered a disability while I have been in the Army. Does this mean Ill have to pay higher insurance rates when I get out of service next month ? Answer: No. To begin with, servicemen are covered by their Servicemens Group Life Insurance for 120 days after discharge at no cost to them. During that period you may secure insurance from any of the 500 private commercial insurance companies at regular rates, regardless of any disabilities incurred in the service. sixth-grad- studied They also Passey, Mrs. Jean Coon, Mrs. Bernadine Robinson, Mrs. Carol Bass, Mrs. Janice Olsen, Mrs. Peggy Buckalew, Mrs. Betty Grow, Mrs. Marilyn Hogue, Mrs. Charlene Payne, Mrs. Darlene Guymon, Mrs. Sherry Gillette, Mrs. Carolyn Peterson, Mrs. R.
