Hundreds perhaps thousof different diets are ands presented to us. Most are billed means of trimas a sure-fir- e excess off pounds. ming Weight can be lost on virtually any dietary plan, good or bad, that ensures a calorie intake of less than energy used. It is apparent, however, that many diets are only temporarily effective and do not promote the fundamental purpose of permanent weight loss. Reducing diets, ideal weight tables charts, are available almost everywhere. It is our purpose here to discuss briefly some principles of the good reducing diet. well aware calorie-countin- g The diet should be indiviin harmony with income, national origins, religious principles and personal circumstances. The diet should be practical, consistent with work patterns and other everyday obligations and responsibilities. The diet should be balanced, and in conformity with good nutritional practice. The diet should be a pattern for life, not just for the period of weight reduction. Generally, physicians do not recommend the crash, diet in routine weight reduction. Instead, they are more likely to prescribe a diet aimed at a gradual weight reduction over several months. It usually isnt necessary to go hungry while dieting. dualized . How Do You Rate As A Wife ? But modern psychologists and educators tend to disagree with the opinionated Mr. Johnson, citing the many instances where men prefer and choose intelligent, educated women as wives, and take a chance on the cooking! The problems that can arise between two intelligent people may have prompted Mr. Johnsons observation they can become competitors: Two stars hugging one spotlight. A man always appreciates a sensitive ally an active foe only echoes the pressure of the very competitive outside world. 2. Are you gracious? Some women seem to be able to entertain everybody but their husbands. Creating a comfortable, warm aura is the finest art of the gracious hostess and many women have this quality, but they turn it off when it is just a tired husband they are entertaining. It is quite rewarding to greet your husband (as if he were a guest) warmly at the door when he arrives tired from that proverbial hard day at the office. 3. Is honesty always the best policy or can a little lie go a long way toward cementing a happy relationship? Honesty is the best policy, but the truth can be manipulated, and many a white lie has saved a lot of heartache. There we times when to tell the truth is unnecessarily cruel. You should pick your moment of truth carefully so as not to hit your man when hes down (really, is that the time to tell him hes too fat?). 4. Would you take a job that paid more than your hubbys? Should you take a job at all? Much depends on you. Todays weaker sex" is sometimes forced to work weekly (if not weakly) to raise a family properly and live the good old American life. Whether you work at a higher salary than your husband is something you should discuss (if you havent done it already) with him. If your husband is the Gary Cooper type, who doesnt complain, yet may resent it, be sure to pay attention to his underlying rumbles: Many a marriage erupts unexpectedly. 4. Ever wonder why the word tongue is feminine in Latin, Greek, Italian, Spanish, French Walking Good Bargain In a sense, walking is the best bargain in transportation, for when you step outside the door and star, moving your feet forward ytu are exercising your leg muscles, pepping up your circulation, gaining .uncomplicated privacy and time for thought and sightseeing, and all this while you are getting to your destination. m multi-armedroad- THIS SPECIMEN GIVES SO SIGNALS OU HAVE A CHOI 011 MAKE THE WRONG ON WIND UP WITH A SCRAMBLED NATIONAL SAFETY CC and German? Maybe because weve all said a mouthful at the wrong time to our husbands. Too often we forget those ringing words of French writer Joseph Joubert: The whisper of a beautiful woman can be heard farther than the loudest call of duty. 6. Look feminine. The right clothing and fabrics can help you not only look the part, but also act it. In public, steer the conversation to subjects on which hubby is an expert. Train the children to think hes boss (but not by saying Just wait until your father hears about this!). Defer to him as often as possible on little issues. Help him feel very masculine indoors and outdoors. 7. Be prepared for emergencies. It is really no more trouble and it is a good deal more efficient to cook double amounts of your favorite dish. Then freeze half of it. This will save your aplomb if supper burns or if that man brings guests to dinner. Learn how to do simple home repair jobs, if you dont already know how. Another definite must for any housewife: Learn first aid treatment. 8. Think often about your courtship days. Remember the way you used to hang on his every word, the compliments you paid him ? It worked once try it again! 9. Be a homemaker not just a housewife. Both you and your home will be more gracious if you learn the fine arts of running it. For instance: Flower arranging, herb and wine cookery. Borrow time for these pleasant extras by streamlining routine chores: Use th' se household hints you find in the papers. Cleanliness may be next to godliness, but dont overdo it! Remember it is so nice to have a man around the house in the final analysis even though it may mean picking up after him. |
