At this time the nation needs judgment and active influence of all citizens to help curb inflation, which affects all of us. This is everybodys job. Big government expenditures and behigh taxes are taking too much from the people, and it is g to finance difficult increasingly coming income-producin- g, business enterprises. The future of our children is at stake. Action taken now may decide whether or not they will be saddled with an intolerable tax burden created by the present tendency to carry government spending and taxation to dangerous extremes. The average American citizen knows that one days pay or more each week goes for federal income taxes. Those in the high brackets work more than four days each week for the federal government, and only a few, hours for themselves. Unless something is done now to stop this trend, the situation will grow worse. Year by year for the past quarter of a century the value of the dollar has declined. Our savings have depreciated more than half. And taxes have gone higher and higher. This is inflation, and we are now experiencing the highest cost of living on record. In the face of this situation, government spending, accompanied by needless waste and duplication, is increasing to a dangerous extent. It has become clear to thinking citizens that free money from government is not free. It is also true that many new government programs which are started as temporary, or experiments, usually increase in size and become permanent and costly. The past attitudes of the public in their demands on Congr:ss for government money are to a considerable extent responsible for increased taxes and the lower purchasing power of the dollar. Greater restraint by the people in actions that tend to increase living costs will result in easing tax burdens and curbing inflation. Letters from the people to representatives in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives in Washington are always welcome, and will receive careful consideration. Our representatives are strongly influenced by what the people think, and by what the people say they want. Everyone will be affected now and in the future by decisions now being made in Washington. For this Magna-Huntarea, our representative in the House of Representatives is Sherman Lloyd, Washington, D.C., and the two senators are Wallace F. Bennett and Frank E.
