poignant insights into personal off-the-- relationships Author Dori Sanders brought that same insight when she traveled to Das is School District and spent two das s visiting with Davis County siudents The event was sponsored by the Davis School District foundation and funded by AMOCO MCI WorldCom and Williams Pipeline Sanders spent a day with elementary students enrolled in the District Spectrum program for gifted and talented elementary students She shared w ith the students the value of reading People w ho read often can recognize good writing and better evaluate their own writing Writers should also use careful observation and apply real life situations to fiction writing After the Sanders presentation one teacher w rote “Dori Sanders enriched our lives I personally feel more motivated to put more of my thoughts on paper” program brings students to dairy farm Livery y ear the Clearfield FFA brings kids together to learn more about agriculture and how important it really is to our economy This is called Foods For America The kids from elementary schools around this area of Utah take a field trip to learn about agriculture and have a fun time This year the Foods For America was held at Lance Hamblin’s dairy farm Different stations were set up for the children to attend such as the sheep shearing (which was one of the most popular) the beef station the pork trailer the dairy princesses (who taught the kids about how milk is processed) the milking barn the grain station and the petting zoo In each of these stations the children got the opportunity to learn more about each one They learned a lot about beef pork milk and grain Some of the kids that came had never been on a farm before so it was a truly wonderful experience for them T his y ear about 200 kids attended the Foods For America program The I FA officers who acted as tour guides kept on their toes the entire time and did a great job It did get crowded at times w hich made it all the more exciting to see all the kids’ faces and watch them enjoy themselves They would crowd around each station eager to learn 1 LAYTON DECA Davis libraries plan summer reading fun A Time Trekker is lost in the maze of the millennium and the children of Davis County are called on to conduct a rescue in time as part of this year’s summer learning program The Davis County Library is sponsoring Time Trekkers at all branches with a variety of activities and programs planned beginning in early June and ending in late July Programs will include a play performed by the Treehouse Children’s Museum of Ogden a presentation on life in medieval times stories celebrating pioneers and the West and a look back at growing up in different decades of this century A complete schedule of programs and activities is available at all branches The program is open to children age 7 (or having finished the first grade) and up Registration begins on Tuesday at all branches and is CLEARFIELD FFA all schools with a choice of cereal with toast or egg Me Davis fruit juice and milk The Library is also offering a summer reading program titled “Entering the Time Zone” for young adults from grades 6 to 12 Teens participating in the program can earn paperback books of their choice and a chance to win a gift certificate from Bames and Noble Participation forms for “Entering the Time Zone” which runs
