Show NOTES BY THE WAY ECHO CITY summit co utah may 20 1895 while waiting for the eastern train to connect with our park city branch I 1 considered that it would break the monotony by dotting down a few items which have come under my observation burink a short outing to park city I 1 left salt lake city on the express 7 a m saturday the insl and changed oars care at ogden for echo city elder eider thomas alleo allen presiding elder at park city branch stopped stepped on board at Co coalville alvIlle from him we learned that president cluff of summit county Stake had bad just juet received from tho the cache valley primary association as nickle donations for the widows and fatherless made so by the late explosion at almy summit stake has alej sent pent pounds of provisions and pounds of groceries to the forty three bereaved families of almy genuine sympathy has made those pour poor bereaved families so far as kind hospitality is concerned feel that they are not forgotten we arrived in park city just in time to see the funeral procession of the two unfortunate men who were hurled buried down the shaft of the anchor mine about 1400 feet one of tiem was so badly mangled as to be utterly unrecognizable A laird man was waa by some providential movement thrown on to toabe the staging stu ping while the other two took their flight down the 1490 foot feet shaft toe accident occurred by some eeme slight mistake cf the edid at or who was stricken with grief en cn account of the sad accident for which he was to some extent responsible the funeral services were held at the op ra house and very largely attended the procession consists of the park city band with muffled drums followed by the For Forre resters eters and the odd fellows both on foot then came the hearse pallbearers pall bearers friends in carriages and twenty on horseback the procession would reach over half a mile the anchor mine in which the ibe accident occurred was closet down for the funeral and all hands bands turned out to mourn the sad fatality which so soon BOOD removed two of their fellows into the laud land beyond this is one of the largest funerals of toe gee place for which it ib is proverbial at the park business its is on the im prove with good bod hopes for the future sunday was a peaceful peace fitl day and it is observable that for a mining camp it to is quite an exception as a quiet and peace peaceful tul place several churches were fairly attended atte eded four meetings were held by the latter day saints sainte and the sabbath evening meeting was over crowded many could oot not obtain admission we called off at farmington and ef joyed and took look part in a social gathering of the dark family fifteen relatives ivea were io in attendance from california others from missouri Mia dabo wyoming and the larger portion froni from utah after singing and prayer re marse were made by W C clark E Steven stevenson soD mary dark clark philip rich aboda dark clark cooper 85 years yeara old dr rick E T dark clark mary stevenson barkand clark and others ot hereof of the abe iola tives an excellent composition for the occasion was read and time was too short it was trespassed upon until 2 a m excellent expressions were madra made regarding utah and her ions by the visiting friends who said hose bese were the happiest days of their lives and they desired many more such JE STEVENSON |
