serves as general manager at Hilltop Lanes narrowly made the field and credits 2 year PBA pro Marshall Holman with his success “It all came down to the final game and I needed to strike out in order to advance to match play" Scadden said “It was simple as that I had to strike out or I would have missed the cut Marshall settled me down and helped me through it He gave me some positive confidence and told me to just go out and get one at a 1 -- By TONY REYNA SUixlaid Eammef cocrespondenl SOUTH OGDEN — A trio of Utah bowlers entered the inaugural Storm Gas-si- c a Professional Bowlers Association regional event at Hilltop Lanes in hopes of perhaps picking up some cash After Saturday’s action not only have Bob Scadden Jr of Roy Troy Waring of Sail' Lake City and former Ogden resident Russ Hunt assured themselves of picking up-soprize money in the $25000 event now they’re aiming for the big $4000 pot that goes to the tournament winner “I expected to see a couple of locals make it to match play (top 16) and I would have been surprised if they hadn't made it" Hunt said “I basically expected to make it and know that I’ve made at least $600 I'm looking forward to today and hope 1 can improve on that I just want to come out and have a lot of fun If you don’t have any fun then it’s not worth it" TJte match play finals arc scheduled to begin today at 9 am at Hilltop Lanes The road to today's match play finals wasn't that easy for the Utah trio But some clutch bowling enabled them to lime" Scadden did just that One at a time Scadden went out and rolled a strike in the final frame to finish the 0th and final game with a 228 that vaulted him into 14th place and a slot in today's finals “This is pretty exciting I came to this classic to compete but it’s the first time 1 me that I've made match play I never dreamed this would come true It's a double payment to make the cut and get the chance to bowl with a legend like Marshall Holman" Ironically Holman did not make the finals Leading the Utah contingent into today's match play is Waring who finished fifth in Saturday's preliminary rounds Like Scadden Waring had to overcome some obstacles cn route to the finals “I had a couple of bad games but fortunately I was able to follow those up with some big games" Waring said Things weren't looking too good for Waring when he rolled a 169 early in the first block but he followed it up with an impressive 258 to get back on track Like Hunt Wanng was pretty optimistic coming into the tourney and feels that his chances of cashing in for an even higher pay day arc looking pretty good “I've bowled against some lop caliber players before so I really wasn’t intimidated coming into this tournament I felt pretty comfortable and felt it a plus being in some surroundings that I'm familiar with" Waring said Waring also realizes though that match play is an entirely different situation “It's a whole different game going into match play You might be a little more nervous but I feel that I'm a good enough player that I could at least come away with some pretty good cash” Hunt who finished right behind War-in- g also had to make some adjustments in order to make the top 16 The former Ogden resident who now makes North Salt Lake City his home had to overcome some approach problems in the fourth game in order to advance “I really didn’t have a good first block (five games) and in the fourth game I was really have some problems with my approach" Hunt said “I just kept a positive altitude and forgot about the game 1 had just had and was able to work things out" Hunt got past the first block and secured his position in match play with a solid second block Like Waring and See BOWUNG on 20 LINES Game 7 hype Magic Pacers hope to taste fruits of Game
