Friday night at the Golden Spike Arena Spikcr competitors came out on top in five of the evening's 10 events and finished in the top four placings in all but two events Spiker cowboys and cowgirls who finished first in their respective events were: Todd Stilton saddle bronc riding Eric Ward steer wrestling Kelly Bennett calf roping Tara Runions goat tying and Jason Baird roping with partner Jason Udy from the Bear River team “This is probably a good way to start out at my first rodeo of the season" said Stitton who rode his saddle bronc horse Cricket well enough to earn a score of 64 “He was weak but he was pretty smooth" he said Although this is only Stitton’s second year to compete in the bareback riding event he said he has his sights set on winning the national high school rodeo championship in the their team-sponsor- ed Warriors Weber High School established control of second place — behind idle Viewmont — in the Region boys soccer standings on Friday with a 1 win over Layton Roy picked up its first win of the year with a close 2 win over Clear- field while Bonneville shut out Davis 1 4-- 3-- Prep soccer Weber 4 Layton At Pleasant View Trond established a school record with a pair of direct-kic- k goals in leading the Warriors past the Lancers Homeland scored the first of his record-settin- g goals as time ran out in the opening half and again seven minutes into the final frame Boothe nd meanwhile sandwiched Homeland’s tallies with a header late in the first half and another score coming off an assist from John Blanchard “I felt that we controlled the
