Show A DISTANT COLONY LUNA soccorro Soco orro county N M heber bober ward oct 7 1894 it havi having ng been announced that our esteemed brother and friend elder J D lee who had bad been called to go 90 OU on a mission to england would shortly leave us a ommittee committee of eight were voted in to make out a program for or the purpose of CeD tendering dering him a farewell reception the result of which was that on friday eVO evening DIUg september at halt half past seven some fifty six of the brethren and sisters bisters came together in our meeting house bouse for the purpose ot of carrying out the program bishop 0 I 1 greer in a short speech announced the reason of our assembling after which the choir sang yes fes my native land I 1 love thee 1 prayer was offered loy by counselor M H thompson nd ad the choir sang the gallant ship to is under way brother B S B tenney in charge of the ceremonies then ben an bounced dancing as in order and those present participated in that exercise with an all n enthusiasm which generally such occasions at in throughout the dance ampro songs recitations and select coa readings dings were rendered some of which gained applause one nice feature of the occasion was the many written contributions handed banded in couched both la in poetry and prose expressive of the eathem and friendship in which our oar brother was hold held by many who had formed a long acquaintance with him and the he reading of which touched a tender caird in him on this occasion about half past on en it was announced that another important feature was now in brier and several of the younger brethren and sisters were called upon 13 to pass around the picnic a bountiful supply of which had been brought by the participants after all had bad partaken partaker par taken it was found on gathering up the fragments there was enough left to supply another such party dancing was teen resumed and went livel lively y until twelve I 1 the be dancers were now called to orders order the choir sa eng ng when shall we all meet again and the prayer was offered by elder J P Wim wimmer and all returned to their several everal places of abode the best music we had bad was williD willingly gly contributed for the occasion free of oost cost two of our genial brethren M H thompson wod and Abe Adair taking lead while sisters bister anerlee lora liora brenney BT enney and brother U i D greer presided at the organ lo in turns the good feeling manifested by all present made tt it a time long to be renumbered by all who participated elder J D lee is the mis who has baa gone from this ward he la is a man well wed and favorably known ail through this section of country and will be missed here by a great many in various ways during his bia absence at the same game time we feel that it will be a lasting benefit and blessing to him he left here bere by team learn october 2nd and with brother B S B tenney who accompanied him as far as holbrook prom from there he will go by rail to salt lake city and thence to his field of labor the weather is warm and pleasant in the day time the nights somewhat cool and frosty the health of the people is booi gooi and a more healthy climate is hard barj to find I 1 believe the great future of this little valley depends upon what success we have in building reservoirs we already have bavo one which is well on the way towards comi lotion and no doubt will prove a great blessing when it is le accomplished we have any amount of as good land as can be found anywhere but water is scarce the people are somewhat discouraged in regard to temporal matters as an emps crops have been more or less of a failure now for three years but bat our people have ever been noted for their stick to it bay or no hay bay until they have eventually made a success they feel well however spiritually and I 1 believe most if not all are striving to live their religion the NEWS comes to hand regularly and is a welcome visitor in this far off land A subscriber |
