| Show A MEXICAN CAVE I 1 have just returned from working on the railroad in the boca gronde 0 f which is thirty five miles north 0 colonia diaz in the state oj 0 ul huaca mexico while I 1 was there 0 brother william adams discovered discover edi curiosity which I 1 think will be iol inter 10 it eating to many of your read readers located half a mile south 0 of f meic guard camp and it is similar Bimi larn an aliw ance to a mining mi ding shaft adams and others determined to investigate atana itana placed a pole across the entrance to W which they tied a rope and adams was lowered he did not get to the bottom as the rope was not long enough so he gave the word to hoist but they could not get him out and had to dispatch one of their number for help which took some time when help came they succeeded in getting him safely out J determined to see the interior they sent to diaz for block and tackle and when it came they returned to the scene of their former failure adams undaunted was lowered and in turn the others descended candle in hand they explored EH 1 on their returning to camp of course jl many others had to see the sight your humble servant included we found the depth fett feet to the first landing and the shaft abaft growing larger as we descended the cave finally opened up till we could go in any direction nearly a hundred bundred feet at the bottom of the incline which is between fifty and one hundred feet below the first landing we came to a lake of pure water as clear as crystal cry sial the lake is about 40 x 50 feet and by sounding bounding we found 15 teet feet to be the greatest depth we took our 1 clothes off and swimming with T one arm carrying the candle J with the other we placed the lighted candles candies on the rocks all round the lake and took a fresh water bath we found it very refreshing hing after the vapor babb we had endured while exploring the many cells and cave baves the cell of the rooms are of a clear fla glassy looking rock caused by the vapor arising from the water to see the boys swimming in every direction by candle light feet under ground was a grand sight well I 1 have heard of bats but I 1 never read or heard of bats to compare with what I 1 there saw we routed thera them and the sound bound made by their wings was like the sound of a burri cane they flew against some of us with great force some borne think it has been an ank bielat mine but I 1 think it was caused y S by y the great upheavals and the amov 1 hr ing of the earth while our savior lay jay D the sepu sepulchre achre and when cities were ag yg destroyed and all the face of the earth changed Ohal liged see ard 3rd nephi book of mormon 8 9 and 10 chapters my mountain home is the most peaceful place I 1 know of but the roukh road between here and juarez JW prevents events a good many from coming to visit mt us in all probability it will keep ailt ot some soma that are weak kneed our ward consists of thirty five families and od is presided over by J N smith jr with james cellers as first and D e heaton as second counselor SAMUEL W pacheco chihuahua mexico |
