lights be established on sixth street from B to J streets committee on improvements petition of emily squires et al asking the council to reconsider their action in levying an assessment for the in question comprises over acres all within the two mile limit and is very favorably located for residence property it has paid city taxes for a long term of years and has thus contributed its quota to the acquisition of water from utah lake parleys and immigration canyons and the artesian well system of the city considerable sums have also been realized by the city from land sales in this locaty locality cash having been paid into the city treasury from that source last december the outlay by the city in return tor for the revenue thus collected has been nu nil so far as your petitioners petition ers can see baring a recent flow of water in an open ditch along the lower edge of this property ro perty most property within the et city limits limit scan can b be e made fairly productive an and U habitable without city or si ditch water by the a aid id of artesian and common wells but the land in question where wells of any kind hind are area a fai failure I 1 ure must continue as it now is unlit unfit tor for habitation and wholly unproductive unless sp sn plied with city water it seems to your petitioners petition ers that while the city sees fit to exercise a practical of the right to sell mell water within its corporate limits residence property within such limits is entitled as a matter of 0 right to water whenever the growth of the city creates a demand for the use of such property properly for purposes of actual settlement such undoubtedly is the condition of the land in question in other oiher parts of the city buildings and improvements are being e tended extended X further out of town and upon less desirable property the natural browh 01 ath in the direction or oc petitioners petition ers land having been artificially retarded by a total absence of water your petitioners petition ers believe that a supply or of water for this property would be fol followed owed at once by extensive improvements and an increase of re revenue to 10 the city that and allowed REPORTS report ol of the city engineer ung ineer in the matter of tile thy petition of morgan H williams relative to filling up a gulch and making other improvements on seventh south street between tenth anti and thirteenth est east streets filed the pity city engineer and street supervisor who were instructed to invest investigate igme tile the charges made that the union P was using the streets for storing cars etc reported that they had stationed ed a man mail at the corner of first coith th and north streets etis for three consecutive days his report showed that on november between 1030 0 a in anti and p in north temple demple street was blocked on seven different occasions ca an aggregate of one hour and forty five minu minutes teis and first coith th street four times time aggregating twenty minutes the abo shortest artest time being five minutes and forty five minutes thu the A I 1 biag bt time during the same time eighty seven deven cars not in trains were strewn in tracts in fourth west and fifth north on november north strett street was blocked seven times timer from five to twenty minutes on november north street was blocked six times aggregating aggregation 9 one hour and five minutes superintendent corwin hs has been notified of this and he expressed his intention the streets kept clear in the fu future ture as far as am practicable cable filed A report from the city engineer was read condemning the plumbing in the opera house block he stated that when the plumbing was inspected a plug was discovered in a defective special policeman as recommended by burton gardner A company adopted report of committee on south jordan and salt lake canal to whom was referred the bill of M B as chairman of the parleys parley banyon water works commission for 50 and john gabbott as assistant for 40 was adopted clairs CLAIMS the committee on claims recommended that the claim of A F doremus for 90 and of the water commission for lie be allowed that james bush te be paid 20 in ia settlement of his claim for injuries received on august 18 13 that clarence bean be paid 50 for damages received by him on august 8 that the supervisor report to this council at the next the respective items of city work he has now in hand band and not yet completed and the condition and progress of the same adopted councilman karrick offered the following resolution which was also adopted be it resolved that the salt lake and jordan canal be improved wherever it may be necessary so that the city can continue to fulfil fulfill councilor pembroke offered another resolution ou which is as follows be it resolved that the city engineer be requested to make estimates of curbing guttering and paving east temple street roxa rom the south sooth line of south temple street to the north line of fourth south street with the same material and in the same manner as is proposed for first east street also that estimate be called for for the cost of same work upon west temple street from and luc including luding the same boundaries as for east temple street also that the city engineer be requested to furnish estimate of paving curbing and gatti pattering aring first and second second south streets from second east bast strett streit to west west street with same material and material jim in same name manner as proposed for 1 arst east west treet councilman anderson moved to refer the matter to the committee on streets councilman pembroke opposed this aud and wanted to know if the committee on streets were vested with power to run this pits city if they were they should be shorn of that power immediately the committee had not kept their pledge to the people who placed them in office and it was time something cometh ing wad done to re deem them the resolution was adopted miscellaneous the ordinance prohibiting the use of bicycles and tricy tricycles tri cycles clett on certain of the mala streets sarc eta of the
