Never mind how every French person has an accent thats either English or American. Never mind the glaringly obvious use of CGI and green screen. Never mind the clear design flaw of air ships being shaped like boats for no discernible reason. I could forgive all those things if the story would stick to its guns and give people what they came for: Musketeers! For a movie called The Three Musketeers , theres a surprising void of actual Musketeers in the plot. Where I thought Id find Macfadyen), action scenes of the Musketeers fighting, there was an obstructive subplot of King Louis the XII trying to woo the woman hes already married to. At least the movie ends up being entertaining in the times it has the audacity to go there. Occasionally the plot and details become so ridiculous it nearly justifies its own absurdity. Some calamity is avoided because a few actors were capable of recognizing what an insane movie they were in and had the foresight to look like they were having fun instead of overacting (specifically Ray Stevenson and the hilarious James Corden). The Three Musketeers is silly and hilarious in the way it never intended. It perhaps has value as an entertaining bad movie but do not waste your money on seeing it in theatres when better movies like 5050 and Moneyball are still playing. If youre a fan of the story itself. Id suggest a search on the Internet for one of the countless Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Buckingham and Logan Lerrnan as DArtagnan performing in The Three Musketeers.
