Main St. is in the process of publishing an interactive cemetery on the Citys Web site. Cedar City resident Curtis Weber, 18, thought of the idea as something he could do for his Eagle Scout project. high-spee- Interactive cemetery published on Web site By ASHLEY LEAVITT aleavittsuujournal com is Cedar City creating a interactive cemetery online thanks to an Eagle Scout project by Cedar City resident Curtis Weber, 18. Cedar City Engineer Troy Maxwell has been assisting Weber with the project. He was trying to put together a database where people could look it up, Maxwell said. I said I could incorporate it to where they have a picture of where the plots are located. Maxwell said that although the interactive cemetery is being worked on, people can still look online at what has been done so far online. Its usable now for locating personal information, he said. As for the headstones, it will depend on volunteer work. Maxwell said one purpose for the interactive cemetery is to help people who are looking for future plots to see whats available. high-spee- Founders day concert to take place tonight Celebration The Founders School Concert: Recognition Piano 'Concert will be tonight at 8 p.m. in the Heritage Center Theater. Performers will be Steinway Kirill artists Gliadkovsky, SUU Anna Gliadkovskaya, President Michael T. Benson and sophomore music majors from Sparks, Nev., Joshua Infiesto and Savannah Sommers, according to the calendar on the SUU Web site. We have two people working on the selling of plots and we will have a view of what is accessible and what will be sold, he said. For this purpose, its to make it more accessible for genealogical purposes. Weber said he got the idea for the interactive cemetery through past experiences. My parents have been doing genealogy throughout my entire life and we would drive long distances to go to cemeteries, Weber said. I appreciate everyone that helped out with it. Weber said the primary purpose for the interactive cemetery was to help people out with genealogy. It will show specifically where everything is located and the pictures only show the plots and the information was to show where they are located, he said. Its to let you see where the tombstones are, the information about the tombstones, and about the people. Cemetery worker Wally Davis said he has been helping out by giving information about the cemetery. We copied a database for him so he could link his photographs and get with our engineering department so it could go online, Davis said. Weve had a couple service projects for taking pictures of the headstones and weve done an eighth of the cemetery. Davis said the interactive cemetery wouldnt be complete for another 10 years because there arent enough personnel to take pictures. We have about 7,000 headstones to take pictures of and they have taken 250 so far, he said. I think it will be a great way to do genealogy research and being able to find relatives once they get it up and running.
