Dont get me wrong; I love to complain. I was thinking of obtaining my degree in complainology, but our school has overlooked offering that degree. Complaining lets the administration know areas in which they can improve, allowing them to entice more people to the school and keep the people who are already here. The administration has to play at politics; when you have a public, thats what youre forced to do. As the maxim goes, You can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you cant please all of the people all of the time. The professors here at SUU are marvelous. They care about students and are always there to help them. I dont know if having tenured professors who dont do any work is a big problem. Maybe Ive just been lucky to not have to deal with it. I have to agree with the member of the U of Us provost office who said, Whats the point of tenure? Tenure is important because it allows professors to teach controversial things and not be punished for it. Some of you might think this is a bad thing, but it isnt. If professors had to worry about being punished, new ideas wouldnt be put forth and learning wouldnt take place. Another good thing about SUU is small class sizes. Its annoying if you try to sleep in class, but its wonderful if you came here hoping to obtain an education. Ive heard many strong opinions about the film, both in its favor and opposing it. I was excited to see what all the controversy was about. When I got off work, I picked up a few things to eat and then went back to where I had stocked movies just a few minutes earlier. I was filled with anticipation as I picked up and examined this mysterious film. I wanted to watch it as soon as possible, but I wasnt able to get to it until Wednesday afternoon while I was home for lunch. I told myself I was only going to watch a few minutes of the film so I could get back to my second job quickly. I popped the DVD into my computer and waited. When the menu came up, I had an eerie feeling come over me as I watched the infamous event I had only read about. Set to some gentle background music, I saw the president of the United States, our commander-inchiereading a storybook to a class full of children. I pressed play and went to fix lunch. The film was so captivating from the very first scene that I found myself unable to concentrate on the simple task of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I had to pause the movie in order to finish preparing my lunch. As the film started back up and I began watching the events surrounding Bushs election, I quickly realized that I was not going to be able to simply watch a few minutes of the film like I had originally planned. I was hooked. I knew I would not be able to watch anything less than the whole film. I sat enthralled hy this amazing documentary for f, OUTDOOR Kolob The student? are incredibly friendly. Maybe it's because the students here communicate. The university I attended before didnt consist of sullen-face- d individuals who were eager to knife anyone whose back was turned, but they weren't as friendly as those here. Something else Ive found is that rent is cheaper in Cedar City, averaging about $200 a month for a single room. To me, thats heaven. Also, I think its wonderful that the Utah Shakespearean Festival is here. I had the opportunity to see Macbeth , and it was a morbid delight. Macbeth and the Lady weird sisters (witches) were especially memorable. I recommend this show to everyone, and I highly recommend using the discount tickets were privileged to buy. Tickets are usually $16 to $44, so being able to get some nice seats for only $ 10 per seat is a nice privilege. Im a huge fan of musical theatre, and I plan to see The Spitfire Grill before the festival ends on Oct. 30. Although the school has problems that shouldnt be ignored and should be fixed, this is still a wonderful place to go to school. Shayne Hudson is a staff m iter for the University Journal. By the time the movie ended, I was completely filled with a wide variety of emotions. I was impiessed beyond measure by this wonderful documentary.
