Any SUU student is eligible for the plan. Inquiries for admittance should be made at the Cashiers Office. Wesley Brinkerhoff, head cashier, said SUUSA officers the beginning of the semester, Brinkerhoff said. So we sat down with the student body president and a number of other committee members and came up with a tuition payment plan that will allow students to pay over the course of the semester on a monthly basis. For Fall 2003, students will have three months to pay their tuition on the plan, Brinkerhoff said. The meeting Tuesday night was designed to explain what a sorority is and included a game to teach sisterhood and teamwork. Rush Week continues through Friday. Greeks initiate week of friendship, acceptance By JESSICA SANELY UNIVERSITY JOURNAL Up until noon Friday, the fraternity leaders of Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu and female fraternity Sigma Alpha Phi, along with the sorority leaders of Delta Psi Omega, will have their eyes open in search of students whod be interested in joining them in their brother or sisterhood. On Monday the Greeks had a barbeque with live music from five bands on the Multipurpose Center lawn. Many the big students came out to kick-of- f week ahead. The remaining days of the week were filled with a variety of activities planned by each of the different Greek Houses. Before noon on Friday, the new members (those who have expressed their interest in joining and have been selected by the active members) will be delivered a bid. The member can then choose to accept or decline the commitment of joining the house. Stefania Rudd, educational leadership consultant for Alpha Phi, said five or six girls are usually accepted each semester. But things are going to be different this year; the bid will be going throughout the year. If 30 girls show their interest, life-lon- they can all be accepted. Sigma Chi lists the benefits of joining a sorority or fraternity on their Web site. It includes the scholastic support system, the hands-oexperience of leading committees, assistance in budgetmanaging, and the interaction with the faculty and administration of SUU. You get to know women that you would have never known otherwise, and they become your sisters for life, Rudd said. Awarding scholarships helps enrollment and student retention, therefore letting the institution continue to exist. The administration shifted $250,000 in the budget after faculty and staff health benefit providers were looked over and reorganized. With the faculty and staff sacrificing the better health benefits, students received for these opportunities campus employment. This decision was an excellent idea... students that have jobs tend to remain here at school, said Dale Orton, assistant vice president for student services. Orton said he sees campus employment as a way to give students a good working while environment developing experience, responsibility and skills that will be applicable after students graduate. Stacia Thomas, education specialist for Career Services, said the new jobs are a nice bonus. Students benefit; offices benefit. Its a win-wisituation. Students who received these jobs see several benefits to See JOBS, Page 3 Health care jobs still plentiful By TYLER JOHNSON UNIVERSITY JOURNAL The health care industry is lacking more than 125,000 care health professionals throughout the country and SUU health care students are benefiting through higher salary and higher job options placement rates in the industry, said Donna Lister, assistant professor of nursing. A popular job-searc- Web site, www.bestjobsusa.com, lists jobs in health care at least 96 percent more available titan jobs in other leading careers such as sales, human resources, and accounting. Dennis Moser, director of the Area Health Education Center, said four positions in health care that are experiencing a large shortfall in the number of are professionals nursing, pharmacy, radiologic technology and laboratory technology. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published a report in July that showed a current 9 percent shortage of the registered nurses required to n.eet supply and demand in Utah. That number is projected to climb to a 39 percent shortage by the year 2020. Tlie study suggested one reason for the nation's shortage is the declining number of nursing graduates in the Uni!d States.
