Show THE THUNDERBIRD PAGE 8 SUSC THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1989 Cheerleaders, LSASU to head west Both organizations receive funds for southern California field trips (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3) and passed unanimously. The senate aid will partially fund the groups excursion to southern California, where 15 group members, SUSC biology majors, will visit the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. It sounds like just a tourist trip theyre taking, but actually its not, said Sen. Tim Wight, who investigated the bill. He noted that the trip will provide students the opportunity to do valuable scientific research. Group members, he said, are staying at a campground and paying their own food costs and camping fees to reduce costs for the excursion. LSASU members noted that senate aid would give a boost to the fledgling group, in its first year at SUSC. The biology department, members said, has contributed some $400 for the trip. Medieval Club President Tonya Sorum presented a bill requesting $270 from the senate to help club members attend Estrella War 5, which Sorum described as 20 simultaneous football games being held in an art gallery with a science fair. The event takes place in Phoenix on Feb. In addition to exposing club members medieval to art and customs, the event will allow SUSC students to meet and persuade people potentially interested in attending Cedar Citys 17-2- 0. Renaissance Faire and the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Sorum said. The senate voted to circle and post the bill. Discussion resumes Monday at 5 p.m. in the Zion Canyon Conference Room. Also to be discussed Monday is the Radio Clubs request for $500, which would go toward the purchase of a $3,500 mixing board for the KGSU production studio. Station Manager Ceci Williams told senators that the current monophonic equipment at the station is inadequate. The new board, Williams said, will provide better sound quality and allow radio production students greater production flexibility. Were really striving to improve our station, Williams said, noting that most funding for the board will come from money the radio club has earned playing music at campus dances. SUSCs TV Club and communication department are each providing funds for the purchase of the board as well, Williams said. ASSUSC President Darin Bird presented a report on the current session of the state Legislature. The way it looks now, the Academic Service Center will be funded, he said. Additionally, he said the new SUSC library is eighth on a legislative priority list and Science Center renovations are ninth. Bird said it is expected that the top 12 priorities will pass.
