YLT Rock star Robert Palmer will be in concert at the Centrum on Nov. 3. Alley. His second album. Pressure Drop, released in 1975, revealed new aspects of his musical taste. With this album he went on his first United States tour. In 1983, Palmer met Duran Duran's John and Andy Taylor, and along with Chic's drummer Tony Thompson, formed the Power Station which netted three top 10 singles. His most recent works are Riptide, which came out in 1985, and Heavy Nova, released this year. Tickets are available at $12 for students and $15 for the general public. MAIN COUPON SMALL TACO SALAD & MED. DRINK $299 The spirit of fairy tale fantasy will come alive Thursday, Oct. 20, with the coming of the American Festival Ballet to Cedar City. The company, one of northwest America's leading dance groups, will perform Cinderella at 8 p.m., in the Cedar High School auditorium. The American Festival Ballet will also be featured in the Convocation program that same day in the SUSC Auditorium at 11 a.m. The company, based in Moscow, Idaho, has presented over 900 performances in 32 states and Canada, including performances in New York City and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The ballet troupe consists of 26 professional dancers who come from all parts of the U.S., Mexico and Europe. "The dancers we choose must not only be highly skilled, they must have an artistic soul," said Jack Alotto, company executive director. The ballet is based on the classic fairy tale SUSC students are admitted free to all Music Arts performances with their activity card. Students from Iron County schools may also attend free of charge if accompanied by an adult ticket holder. The exhibit, located on the low'er floor of the Braithwaite Center, will be available to the public until Nov. 4. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. An organ recital will be held in the Thorley Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The recital will feature BYU musician Douglas Bush. American Festival Ballet, under the direction of Marius Zirra, is one of four groups chosen to participate in the Western United States Performing Arts Tour. The performance is sponsored through the Cedar City Music Arts Council and has received grants from SUSC, Iron County School District and the Western States Art Foundation. Carmen Hepworth, cochairperson of the council, thinks the ballet will be enjoyed by young and old alike. "We are targeting the ballet to not only the educated but the children as well," she said. His lifestyle is unique compared to many professional musicians in the business. Palmer lives in a small village in Switzerland with his wife and two children. "He's a family man with a simple lifestyle; his children don't even realize the significance of his profession," said Edd Hafen, ASSUSC United Arts director. He said that Palmer is a individual and that many consider him the Cary Grant of rock 'n' roll. He always wears a suit and tie when he performs and was featured on the cover of CQ magazine because of his contemporary look. Palmer was born in Yorkshire, England, on Jan. 19, 1949. He joined his first band, The Mandrakes, when he was 15. At 19, he resigned from his job as a graphic designer and joined Alan Bown's band, one of rock groups, and Britian's first moved to London. The following year he joined DaDa and toured America with the band, his first experience in the United States. DaDa was later changed to Vinegar Joe. He stayed with the band for eighteen more months, sharing vocals with Elkie Brooks. In 1974, Palmer went solo and produced his first solo album Sneakin' Sally through the Under Milkwood, the first production of the 1988-8- 9 theatre season will open on Stage II to audiences Oct. 26 and run through Oct. 29. Tickets can be purchased from the SUSC Box Office weekdays from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are also available on performance days from 1 p.m. until curtain time. General admission is $7 for adults, $6 for high school students and senior citizens and $5 for children ages five to 12. SUSC students pay $3 for Stage II productions.
