Additionally, fees for college residence halls would have to be increased in order for the college to meet its bonding obligations. Sherratt fears SUSC's previous efficiency could harm the college now. "In recent years, we have cut our programs to the bone, and there is nothing left to sacrifice," he said, noting that salaries for faculty and staff are already 31 percent behind their counterparts in other states and that the faculty teaching load is 10-3- 0 percent above national norms. "There are those who claim that all we need to do is just cut out administrative 'fat' and we could accommodate the proposed cuts. Where is this supposed 'fat'?" Sherratt asked. "The fact is that if we were to terminate the president, vice presidents, and all the deans, together with their operating budgets, eliminate intercollegiate athletics; shut down the Shakespearean Festival; and totally eliminate summer quarter; we are still a little over half way there. "The college would be forced to reduce its programs, forcing out students currently enrolled and denying entrance to many others in the future," he said. In opposing the rollback, Sherratt said he thinks public information is higher education's best defense against the initiatives. "People need to know that you can't cut $326 million out of the state budget and think you're not going to feel it. That's ridiculous. "It will be our task as a college to let the taxpayers of Iron County know what they are voting for in next November's election. cannot conceive that they would vote in favor of the initiatives once they know the impact their passage would I Of iBMi r) have." ; Sherratt said he is confident the initiatives will fail as the state's citizens become aware of their true impact. can't believe the people of the state of Utah would fall for this," he said.
