Show COAL OIL EXPLOSION A three year old child severely burned at three this afternoon a severe accident occurred at the home of mr H luce e first south sooth street resulting in serious injury to freddy luce a three year old boy it appears that a five gallon can of coal oil had been purchased for the family and had been placed on the back porch the children were playing about and the first warning that mrs airs luce had of any danger was wai hearing a loud report like the crack of a rifle some one called that a child had been shot and mrs luce ran out to discover her little one in A MASS OF FLAME she seized him and quickly extinguished the fire in his hair and clothes and sent for her husband and dr J 8 13 richards it was ascertained ascertain gd that the little fellow had obtained a match by bi some unknown means and hild bad been playing on the coal oil can where he succeeded succeed edin in striking the match and igniting the fluid which exploded and scattered about in all directions ta taft flames shot upward and after the little fellow had bad been drawn out those who gathered extinguished the flames and saved the premises the little boy was horribly burned his forehead and the right side of hla his face were LITERALLY the flesh hanging in a roll at the side of his head bead his Is hair was burned off of one side of the head the skin fairly cooked and his nose and the lower part of the fare face as well as his hands bands burned somewhat fortunately his eyes did not appear to bein be in gred soda cloths claths were ap aar apr plied and relieved the parn pain somewhat though his sufferings were awful he did not lose conscious consciousness nest and his screams could be heard beard a considerable sid erable distance dr richards to is giving him all needful attention and it is not likely the injuries in uries will fatal though they may may leave permanent scars |
