In the first game, the Chinese took an early four-poilead with the superb playing of Liu Changcheng and excellent blocking of Song jinwei It wasn't enough for them to prevail over the powerful Americans though, who took the match 1 1 0 As the second match began, both teams started to do what the crowd came to see fast, 100 mph spikes and towering blocks. The Chinese came out with a determined 1 lead early on, but it wasn't long before the world champions tied the game. The U.S exploded after that, and took a commanding 10-- 5 lead of its own. Back came the Chinese with a rally that tied the game at 10. As the game inched along, the crowd became the American team's seventh man, with a "USA" chant. The Chinese seemed to wear down, but still managed to tie the game four more times, and sent the game into overtime. The lead seesawed back and forth in the final minutes, keeping the crowd on the edge of its collective seat.
