Show Page 10 The Thunderbird Mo rulin February 10, 1986 SUSC gymnastic squad is well rounded, experienced -- Gymnasts are among the hardest working group of athletes on the SUSC campus; they are also possibly the most improved team. The individual and team scores have climbed steadily with each week of competition and they show no sign of slowing down, according to Coach Kathryn Berg. The team includes five returning veterans and two freshmen who have come together to form a tight knit, cohesive group which thrives on helping one another to achieve. Nancy Barr has been interested in gymnastics most of her life. As a returning senior she provides leadership and maturity. Barr's events are the uneven bars, the balance beam and the floor exercise where she makes a strong team contribution. Barr, a math major, is from Las Cruces, N.M. Michelle Goodwin is a senior psychology major. She is a team cocaptain participating in the balance beam and floor exercise. Goodwin, a 1982 Cedar City High School graduate, said she enjoys the competition of gymnastics. Her scores indicate that she has shown talent even though Goodwin didn't participate in gymnastics in high school. Goodwin is also talented musically, being accomplished with the piano and violin. Tina Morgan, a freshman from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, participates in all events. In the floor exercise Petersen took first, Jennifer Walke was second and Teri Sodja came in third place to cap the team's sweep of a second event. Her hobbies include dancing and diving. Cindy Petersen leads the Thunderbirds in average and average score for all four individual events. Petersen, a freshman from Riverton, graduated from Bingham High School. She said she enjoys being a team member because the others girls are very good to work with. Her hobbies include tennis and diving. Elizabeth Ramsay, the only married member of the team, is a sophomore majoring in physical education. She has the second best vault average on the team. A graduate of Bountiful High School, she has been married to Tyson for six months. Ramsey said the thing she likes the best about the team in the togetherness. and Terri Sodja is a team has the second highest average in the balance beam. She also competes in the floor exercise and the vault. A West Jordan High School graduate, Sodja is a junior majoring in biology. Her interests include all sports and ballet. Jennifer Walke is second in scoring this season after leading the team in that category last year. The junior elementary education major is a Sandy native and a graduate of Jordan High School. She said this is the best team she has been on and she is having "a lot of fun."
