Show Tfk Tliuiukrbird Cedars Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane. These are familiar words to a song that children enjoy singing each Christmas season, and this year is no exception even in Cedar City. What began seven years ago as a promotional device for downtown retailers has now become a local tradition. To the joy of many area children, Santa arrives Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. in the annual Christmas parade. Parade Chairman Scott Phillips said that the parade hostess is chosen from nominations in a community wide contest and that the person must fit the Mrs. Santa mold. Edith Kirtley, 73, is the grand hostess for this years parade. She was chosen, according to Phillips, because of her immense love for children. She has been a school teacher in Iron County for the past 37 . years. Four years ago there were 17 floats entered in the parade compared to last years 40. This year, says Phillips, there are expected to be some 50 to 60, and 15 to 20 of those will be from the campus. Many of SUSCs clubs and organizations will revamp their homecoming floats to fit this years parade theme, Christmas Around The World. Phillips says that this years theme was chosen because Christmas is one holiday that is universal and that transcends the language barrier. There will be entries from Cedar City and outlying 586-788- Join the Fun!
