Committee studies festival, college BY DOUG CHRISTENSEN A college committee is studying the relationship between SUSC and the Utah Shakespearean Festival, but USF Founding Director Fred Adams says the committee would not be the necessary if the college really had a commitment to me festival. Adams said he is offended that the committee was ever established. In response, SUSC President Gerald R. Sherratt said last week that committees regularly evaluate the status of college He said creating departments, and the festival is no exception. the committee in no way implies a lack of commitment from the college to the festival. Earlier this quarter the committee began investigating the relationship between the festival and the college, looking into such issues as how much direct support the college should when provide the festival, and what process should be used decisions affecting the festival must be made. A four member college committee recommended Tuesday that Bishop be made the once and future football coach. Weve selected a proven winner, says Steve Funt, SUSC athletic director. Jack Bishop is a coach who knows where weve been, where we are now, and where we are going. He knows the program. Bishop will fill the vacancy left earlier this month when Conrad resigned. The Bishop previously served as head coach for the Thunderbirds during the 1978 through 1982 seasons and racked up a recoid for himself and the college. College officials began looking for a new coach as soon as Conrad submitted his resignation, saying they didnt want to be handicapped in the search for new recruits for the football program. Conrad resigned after the collegt athletic council voted to evaluate the football programs coaching staff, with 30-17- special emphasis on his performance. For the first year or two, we will probably have to go heavier to the junior colleges than I would intend once weve established the program, Bishop said.
