Larsen submitted a bill Nov. 5 to the ASSUSC Senate requesting $919 to pay for fundraising events. He withdrew his bill when it became apparent to him that he would only get $52. Larsen said he will rewrite and resubmit the bill in January. The proposed fundraising activities include a club carnival, Christmas Theives Market, as well as a dance and Theives Market in the spring. The money was to be used to finance a trip to New York for Art Guild members to visit various art museums. And theres where the problem arises, according to ASSUSC Academics Vice President Steve Wright. Wright said the bills cover letter mentioned a trip to New York, but stated no definite ideas regarding that request. The main reason they would not have gotten the $919, said Wright, is that they were talking about a trip to New York, but they gave no specifics about that trip, such as how many people are going, where they are staying, when they are going, and maybe is there another place they could go that would be closer to home and cost less, but give them the same experience. Larsen said he feels that the problem is not in the language of the bill, but the minds of the senators. A lot of the senators dont have a good attitude about art, or an appreciation for the Art Guild, said Larsen. They just dont understand the impact we have on the community. Larsen also said the trip to New York is irrelevant. The money is to do fundraisers. The trip to New York is an ultimate goal, not a specific plan. Wright said that although there is no prejudice in the Senate toward new clubs, it is an uphill battle to get very much Senate funding. Although we dont discriminate against new clubs, we are more careful about allocating funds to them than allocating funds to an established club like PBL, said Wright. Larsen said he feels the conlusion was reached because the senators just dont understand the situation. v Monday December 10, 1984 ii FREE!
