The wire service costs approximatley $3,200 a year to maintain, Harrison The ASSUSC Student Senate has learned that it has about $300 more in its budget than it was first informed. Senate Treasurer Kent Hugh said the extra money cant be spent because there still are bills to be paid. We still might even go in the hole with that much more money, Hugh said. Senate President Steve Wright reminded senators to contact the clubs they represent to help them work on their 1984-198- 5 budgets. Wright said that this week is the last chance for clubs to propose their next years budget proposals. Although the Senate has little to work with now, that shouldnt be a problem next year. Last year, Jeff Maxwell, former Senate president, said the Senate had $19,440 to work with. Wright said that according to Brad Bennett, new director of student activities, this years Senate budget is estimated at $25,000. The Communication Club proposed a budget of $1,312 for Acting club President Michele Harrison explained that the club has been inactive for the last three years. The financial support is needed, she said, to get it started again. Plans for activities include sponsoring guest speakers, a float for homecoming and a field trip to Los Angeles. Harrison explained that in previous years the club has asked the senate for $1,200 to help support the Associated Press Wire Service for KGSlJ Radio, however, this year they would like to have the money go directly to the club. We think that the money could be better spent on the club itself so that greater amount of people could receive benefits from that kind of money, she said. If the Senate could appropriate an additional $1,200 for the maintenance of the AP that would be great but, if we had the choice of having $1,200 for the AP or $1,312 for our club we would take any money we could for the club said. She concluded, It is more of a departmental expense than a club expense. The bill was voted to be posted for a week for review. Senator Mike Mauger voiced concern about clubs which say they will raise money on their own and fall through. When clubs come in and say they will raise X amount of dollars throughout the year, perhaps the club does not really obtain their actual goal. What if they ask the Senate for The Comm Club is seeking funds to become active again. more money later on? he asked. Mauger suggested a stipulation be made that clubs not be allocated additional funding until they come up with the full amount of money they had in their budget. The issue will be discussed more fully later. The Intertribal Culb also presented a budget school year for $1,000. request for the 1984-198- 5 The clubs estimated total for the upcoming year is $8,754, $7,754 of which they plan to raise themselves. Club plans for the year include a princess pageant, homecoming float, an Indian Week basketball tournament, pow-woand other activities. Senate members will be distributing a survey among students to help the Senate Task Force study the problems associated with academic advisement, said Stewart Riley. The findings will be used to make recommendations to the administrations Academic Advisement Committe and to help in making decisions concerning a possible future Academic Service Center. 5. w Utn)0 NMcJlolijiuj Only THREE BIG DAYS Thursday, Friday and Saturday May 0 wcheese $1.05 10-1- 2 6 DHQGSa csora 3: 121 5 West 200 North ueAE5 dw |
