Show The Thundcrbird 'Monday, January 30, 1984 9 Page Graphics show opens Thursday ; Posters, brochures, logos, books, magazine and newspaper advertisements, packages and labels will be shown in the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery at Southern Utah State College during February. An illustrated lecture by Bob Lander, vice president of Art Directors Salt Lake City, will open the exhibit on Thurs., Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. The Seventh Annual Art Directors Salt Lake City Competition includes 200 works selected from over 800 entries submitted by graphic artists from the Wasatch Front area. The annual competition is sponsored by the ADSLC, a non-proforganization servicing the professional needs of firms and individuals in the practice of graphic 'O'-- A , v it A . 4 i t, f- J. Its 1983 competiton was selected by an independent jury of national reputation in San Francisco. n The work represents a of style, material and artists, and the ADSLC encourages business to solicit work from the firms and individuals credited in the exhibit, states Lander. Fie is graphic arts coordinator with Zellerbach Paper Co. in Salt Lake City, graduated in commercial design from Brigham Young University and has worked as a designer and art director for various advertising agencies, design studios and a book publisher. This exhibit of graphic art at the gallery recognizes the best creative efforts of the artists in the Wasatch Front area. We are excited to introduce the areas public to the commercial arts through such a quality and creative exhibit, said June Miller Adams, assistant curator. The exhibit continues through Feb. 24. Light refreshments will be served at the opening reception held on Feb. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. The gallerys hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 to 9 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 6 p.m. on weekends. cross-sectio- Jolley reigns over Snow Week by Joe Giles Snow Week at SUSC got off to an All Time High as Lynette Jolley, 20, of Cedar City, was crowned the 1984 Snow Queen in a pageant last Monday night. When the winners name was announced, Jolleys first thought, she says, was, Who did they say? After realizing she had won, Jolley says she felt kind of numb. She earned the title by competing against 12 other women. Contestants were judged on the basis of talent, poise and beauty, by a panel of six judges. Jolley impressed the judges and the audience with her singing of Goin Back To Alabama, as well as with her grace and personality. as the masters of ceremony for the event, which, in addition to the competition, included several special talent numbers and a slide presentation of this years Joining Jolley as the Snow Week Royalty are First Attendant, Kathie Willoughby, 18, of Delta, Utah, and Second Attendant, Angela Winterrose, 20, of Cedar City. Willoughby performed a piano solo by Rachmaninoff during the talent competition, while Winterrose sang Everything from the movie A Star Is City served Bom. two workshops given by Penny Ward e of the beauty salon in Cedar City. On Friday night the contestants were assigned their numbers and their places on stage, and on, Saturday night a rehearsal contestants. Involvement for the women began the Tuesday before the pageant. Flair care and makeup were the topics of Jolley also won Miss Congeniality, an award given by the contestants themselves. Delna Sav yer, 20, from Lyman, Utah, was awarded Miss Personality. Stephanie Walker, 18, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, took Evening Gown honors, while the award for Best Talent went to Joye Hahne, of Cedar City. Met and Lana Johnson of Cedar Nu-lmag- was hel. Monday afternoon, the judges conducted individual interviews, and the pageant was held at 8:00 that night.
