Show The Thiavkrfhrd Monday, October 31, 1983 Webb leads improving harriers this week T'Birds to host Competition in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Meet is the next step for the Southern Utah State College cross country squad. The Thunderbirds took last week off in RMAC-NAIpreparation to host the combined District VII meet this Saturday at Painted Hills Golf Course. The RMAC meet will not include a womens division. SUSC demonstrated improvement two weeks ago when the Thunderbirds finished fourth in a seven-teameet hosted by Idaho State University at Pocatello, Idaho. Dave Webb, senior from Spanish Fork, finished 11th overall and led SUSC finishers. Webb has in every meet this finished first for the season. Just four seconds behind Webb, David Dix, a freshman from Cedar City, crossed the finish line to place 13th. Thunderbirds finishing behind Webb and David Dix were Robert Naylor, Joe Begay, Brent Dix and Derek Lamb. Weber State won the meet, followed by Boise HELP WANTEDB Earn $500 or more each school year. RMAC championship meet State, Utah State, SUSC, Ricks College, College of Southern Idaho and Idaho State. District VII The combined RMAC-NAIr (just barely competition will cover an five miles) course. Teams scheduled to compete include Metropolitan State (the only school), Western State, New Mexico Highlands, Adams State, Southern Colorado, Colorado Mines and SUSC. We would like to invite anyone interested to come and watch the race, said SUSC Coach Ben Davidson. It should take most runners between 24 and 25 minutes to complete the course. There will be no admittance charge. Adams State, Western State, and New Mexico Highlands are expected to battle for the conference and district championship, Davidson said. Colorado Mines and Metro State also have some excellent runners, he added. The Thunderbirds are not expected to be a serious threat for the championship, but several SUSC runners are capable of finishing high in the standings and perhaps of qualifying for national competition. Men's athlete of the week Senior quarterback Kirk Hajen came off the bench in the fourth quarter to complete eight of 10 passes for 135 yards and engineered two touchdown drives to help the Thunderbirds avoid a shutout at the hands of the Western State Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations, Kirfcf Women's athlete of the week Sophomore hitter J ana Crawford, a returning letter winner from Draper, Utah, intensely attacked the net for the Lady Birds Saturday night in the three game sweep of the Mesa Mavericks. Crawford racked up 10 kids, had five assists and added two service aces to aid SUSC to a fertfi. in the RMAC championship on Wednesday night, and she is our selection for Female Athlete of the Week.
