Show DROWNED CHRISTIAN ALFSEN 8 BODY WASHED ASHORE BY THE WAVES today to day a telephone message conveyed the to P 0 thomaseen at the utah central office in this city ot of the finding ot of the body of christian alfsen a norwegian about 17 years of age a short distance north of lake rail bark last nights storm brought the body ashore from its grave iu in the briny waters of the great salt halt lake and it was discovered this morning by mr john JohnD D Lyond some six years ago young Alf alfsen sell then under 12 years of age arrive arrived dja an utah from norway while in spanish fork cadion he nad bad his feet terribly frozen and was taken by some friends to juab county he was afterwards removed to the sisters hospital in this city for treatment and it if was found fouad necessary to amputate the injured injure cl members which dr benedict did taking them off above the ankles the doctor assisted by some et ef his acquaintances quain raised enough means to purchase the boy some cork feet to supply the loss and with those he soon became able to walk about with comparative ease on his recovery hr he was wag sent to the catholic school st marys academy mr and hiis tiis a scandinavian brethren took up a subscription with which mrs alfsen and her infant dauch daughter ter erni emigrated rated from norway Y mrs alf santook sen took dersoon her soon to live with h her er still sending him to school his bis expenses at that time and jp to the present being borne bythe by the vo mormon r church evently he has baa b been attending the Der debret soret unive university r rn Y where he has been regarded ragar ll 11 ed as a very bright pupil and was I 1 it excer pt last wednesday 30 young alfsen left his boat in this city saying of his bis intentions his hilure failure to return caused bis mother great anxiety but her search lor for him was vain and since that time nothing had bad been heard of him until the sad news of the finding of them the body was received A coroners inquest was held ao oday o day and the jury gave as their verdict that the deceased came to his death by drowning in the great salt lake whether bother W it was intentional or not was not ascertained the mo moler of the deceased is of coursel course distracted at the sad occurrence she has nov no one child a daughter six or seven years of age living mr goes north this evening to obtain further particulars if possible it is the impression of friends of the unfortunate youth that he became depressed at his physical condition and while in that state of mind put an enato end to his lite life whether or not this view is correct may be de ter mined by future developments the body will be interred at farrinton Far minton |
