| Show A FRIENDLY VOICE 11 BINGHAM utah january 17 1886 editor deseret news I 1 am not a writer fit for publication in the NEWS but I 1 have been in utah tor lor some years though a member of the so called mormon nl church before I 1 came to utah I 1 had heard all manner of bad reports of the mormons cormons Mor mons 11 but I 1 am now glad to say that I 1 dont know of one that I 1 have hava found to be true I 1 have taken a good ideal deal of pains to tb satisfy myself of the truth of of the book of mormon and it if we hilve have sufficient evidence to believe that christ is risen from the dead land is the redeemer of the world we have as strong proof to believe the book lot of mormon and that joseph smith was a prophet of god as we do to believe any part of the bible dible the proof of both Is sufficient but to see the stand ahe government has taken against the mormon church is alarming they take the reports of men that are sent here to stop pot polygamy amy or I 1 might as well say to put down the mormon I 1 church and have never made any fair 1 investigation vesti gation men congress acts out oni reports I 1 dont believe today to day there is a man in congress who even has taken the tae trouble to learn the truth of the mormon doctrine for himself still they sit a as 03 J judges u adges and make laws against a religion th they know nothing of there should b be e every evary fair means used to get the P resident president and congress to investigate th this is matter it is plain to every unprejudiced person that there is now no such a thing as an impartial trial for a mormon 1 there are plenty of bit business siness men in utah who should take hold of these things and write and have the whole matter published in the papers all over the states if I 1 were a good writer they would hear from me i 1 do write many lettera to my friends as it is the people of utah should use means to circulate church books and the NEWS as much as they well can in all cases give nothing but true facts the people should not blame the courts and officers for carrying out the laws but all honest deop people carran e should should use their influence against a one sided business I 1 am not one that should instruct the NEWS but I 1 think we should not be drawn away so far in a quarrel as too to forget home business forget I 1 if there is anything in this of any benefit to use you can do so and I 1 do hope government will look into these things fairly respects respectfully ully W Y 3 biwald BI WAlt S |
