Show ELIJAH our reporter had the pleasure of hearing the 0 ogden den tabernacle choir and chicago symphony orchestra and their four soloists render mendel sublime oratorio elijah at the grand opera house ogden last monday evening the khz e of the choir tor for aback I 1 back ground ladies all in white and gentle men in III black the orchestra with w I 1 th the artists in evening dress the four soloists in the immediate front and professor joseph Dallan tyne on the conductors duc tors box was a most imposing am one and the ren rendition dillon of this master masterful full work was simply grand I 1 the choir and orchestra had not even had one rehearsal together but Dallan ballantyne tyne had perfect control over the immense tody body tor for the two or supported each other hil in suh such perfect style that through the three hours of almost con continuous sinuous work not a hitch nor mishap oc cured the orchestra has a national reputation and fully came up to all expectations the oratorio does not t wano 1 E 0 l except ins AZ i ru mr wagner 11 he cell jor for just a moment mohe or two sent a thrill of joy to the hearts of the audience as the tones of ills his instrument re sounded through the house the vocal soloists were ra rather ther a disappointment with the exception of sir mr middleton the basso and mrs gannon cannon the contralto contral toi mrs wilson wilso 11 the soprano was suffering with a very heavy cold coid which undoubtedly prevented her from doing full justice to her roles her voice w was 1 s so much effected that miss myrtle ballinger of the choir had to be dratted drafted into brevice without a moments warning to sing one of the big solos tit in part two but she did it with a finish that was delightful and brought storms of applause from the audience soloists and orchestra the tenor mr miller has 1 a I very tory ordinary voice and the wonder I 1 is that a I 1 better man is not carried by such an organization ns as the orchestra is mr middleton has a most excellent bass voice ice and it stood by him well for lie he was singing all through the evening solos which were very heavy and yet at the finish his voice was just as mellow and fresh as at the beginning lie ile is a splendid artist mrs rose lutiger gannon has a beautiful contralto voice and is a true artist her renditions of woe unto me me and 0 rest hest in the lord were gems and brot storms of a applause p the choir we take our hats 0 oft ff to you and truly professor dallan tyne has reason to be proud of you it has never been our pleasure to hear bear better work than that rendered by the choir in the great choruses choi uses As a body it responded to prof dal bal lan tynes baton as though there was sonic some secret electric wire connecting each voice with the end of the baton it was glorious it was divine the professor and ills his singers sanger d deserve every credit and compliment given them the evening of music and song was as a perfect delight one never to be forgotten |
