Show 6 Y OPERA A packed house greeted the singers from our sister city over the mountains in their presentation of the comic opera princess ida at the opera house evening our theatre goers have never been treated to many performances of this character and to see those GO 60 people on the stage at t once and then to hear them in the chorus work was something of a revelation olat loa the costumes were maent fici ent we understand they were imported from san francisco at a great cost the chorus work was splendid showing vevy careful training and the soloists were good also mr D E reese as prince hilarion Hil arlon was one ot of the best characters and his clear voice had a very pleasing effect upon the audience ills his solo just twenty years ago was a gem and rendered in fine style dullen bullen and white in the roles of cyril and rl florina orina friends of hilarion Hil arlon were excellent and this trio caused no end of ct amusement in tile their deception of the university maidens whose boast it was that no man should ever enter the sacred pre cinas of their domain I 1 L C fair jr and R IT 11 wilson as kings hildebrand a and nd gama respectively acquitted themselves very creditably as did also arthur johnson andrew wiser and W L quayle as the sons of kins king gama their unison bass solos were exceedingly tunny funny and the gentlemen got everything out of the parts miss carrie thomas as princess CeSS ida looked charming sang sweetly and gave a very creditable rendition of the part miss thomas has a sweet voice and for such a dainty malden maiden can put lots of force into it miss edith bowen as lady DI blanche in had any amount of trouble over ove r her abstract quantities and amused greatly with her deductions I 1 the misses edna daniels and irene hendrickson as lady psyche andril issa respectively looked sweat sang well and made a hit audience Z I 1 the the girl graduates tes impersonated mp resonated r pt aka jeas Herid hendrick ric 1 a although ailt I 1 iao 10 gh av ii 4 small parts did well and were essential to the success or of the opera the chorus work was excellent giving giring the right kind hind of support to the soloists so lists as altogether the presentation was among mo g th the e best of its kind ever rendered here and when one Te members remembers that the performers are armatures it was certainly fine the band did good work on the street as well is as in the tha orchestra pir pic the company was served with lune in the dancing hall by some of the local ladies under the direction of I 1 pres oleen N stohl and were made i to feel that they were welcome in our icicy city professor robinson no binson and his singers I 1 are arc certainly to be congratulated and we hore hope that some day they will vill find i it i to pay us another visit for we assure them hem a hearty r reception ec eption |
