The command did not say whether the port itself had been hit and spokesmen said they did not know. A communique said the targets were logistical facilities. U.S. planes have never in the past attacked the actual port facility at Haiphong, through which North Vietnam receives most of its war material, but U.S. congressmen have urged such raids. The city is 275 miles north of the Demilitarized Zone and 55 miles east of Hanoi. The command said in a communique were conducted previously against military targets near Vinh and Bai Thuong, 145 to 200 miles north of the Demilitarized Zone. The communique said targets In the raids over the North included such logistical facilities as fuel dumps, warehouses, truck parks and other activities which are supporting the invasion of South Vietnam by North Vietnamese forces. It said the tactical aircraft and the B52 Superfortresses, which can carry up to 30 tons of bombs each, were accom-panit- d by appropriate escort aircraft. The command said all B52s returned safely, but made no mention of the er smaller aircraft. Spokesmen said later they had no plane losses to report over North Vietnam. Radio Hanoi claimed three U.S. jets were shot down and the pilots captured or killed in raids Saturday just above the said The shootings were apparently set off by the death of Joseph McCann, 24, a very senior officer in the IRAs official wing. McCann was killed by six bullets when he ignored warnings to halt and ran from troops in the Catholic Markets area of Belfast, an army spokesman said. ' The deaths raised the toll in almost three years of violence to 304. As news of McCanns death spread, rioting broke out in Catholic areas of and army Belfast and Londonderry patrols came under attack from mobs of youths hurling rocks, and gelignite and gasoline bombs. In Belfasts Lower Falls District, youths showered rocks on army posts and patrols and shoved cars, plants and debris into street barricades. A nail bomb thrown at one patrol in Dims Street brought a hail of army bullets that hit the thrower, an army spokesman said. He was dragged off by the crowd.
