elder count county y june ad 1885 editor deseret news thinking afew a few lines from this remote northwestern settlement may P prove rove interesting to some of your I 1 readers I 1 pen you a short sketch about matters here the crops are looking very fair con si dering the dryness of the season in consequence of of which most people are busy irrigating and scarcely expect so plentiful a harvest as last year A plot of land for tor a to townsite town wansito sito has recently been surveyed and s some orn e city lots laid off upon which ch there Is a good rood prospect of building being commenced this summer it is I 1 believe the intention of some to use brick and others adobes acobes which materials I 1 think will shortly supersede the primitive logs entirely as both articles are being produced in the valley the congregating of the people on city lots will be of great social and religions religious advantage the inhabitants at present are much scattered some having to d drive rive several miles to meeting and v vert very e ry few living nearer the meeting house than half a mile on tuesday last we had a visit from our stake sunday school superintendent ten and other friends from brigham city on which occasion our sunday school numbering about sixty scholars and teachers was or fias ilas iani Sani anizel zed brother jv godfrey who as for some time officiated in that capacity being sustained as superintendent in with br bros is W H meacham in and charles E EL L jackson as assistants the latter also being aD POinted appointed secre secretary tary tark with sister maryj mary colemam as assistant our sunday school meetings and Y 11 I 1 A are well attended indeed we are fain to sin sing give us room that that we may dwell I 1 and hope in t the he near future to have a larger and more commodious meeting meetinghouse house the saints here feel to admire and sympathize with the brethren who are buffe suffering r ing for righteousness sake while they h have e nothing but pity mingled with contempt lor those who bow the knee to baal it is about time for americans to quit boasting about freedom and liberty as the reports of the recent trials of our brethren must call a blush blushi of shame to mantle the cheek of every honest hearted citizen mormon or gentile for my my own part the comparison between the administration of justice in this and in my own country makes me prouder than ever that I 1 am able to subscribe myself A BRITON wohla WORK ON THE MANTI mantl TE TEMPLE encouragement OVER THE RESULT OF THE CRUSADE prospective VE completion OF THE mantl MANTI TEMPLE irle irah COST THUS fan FAR mantl MANTI june ath 1885 editor deseret news I 1 must say after mature reflection relative to we work of the PRESENT CRUSADE that I 1 am very thankful for the 9 good that is belaz acco accomplished in plis pils hed by our bitter enemies not that they desire to do us any good or deserve any credit but through ii the kind overrun overruling ing providence of our heavenly father everything that transpires in the persecution of our brethren adds prestige and strength to the work of god and shows to the world IV or I 1 d that the latter day saints occupy a higher plane than their persecutors do the day is not far in advance of us when the world will be compelled to acknowledge the superior morals of the saints and the divinity of the system and that has as brought to pass this condition of things thins THE MANTI mantl TEMPLE Is progressing not so very rapidly but satisfactorily the first story is read ready y for the plasterers and they have been putting on ou the first coat during the last week the second story is nearly ready for them also it is thought that the temple proper can be got ready for use one year from this fall fali if the peo pie of the temple district will furnish f the necessary means the stake president C petersen has recently made a tour of some of the adjoining stakes and it has been estimated that if the head of each family throughout the temple district contribute 25 15 during the present year and one quarter wf of that about in cash there will be sufficient fici ent with the aid that will come from other sources to finish the house from april to april 1883 1885 sanete pete Sta kehas paid trustee in n trust all other stakes making a total for the year 0 of the temple report made at
