| Show KEEPING MONEY AT HOME A utan utah comity merchant on local fire insurance the idea has come forcibly to my mind by no means a dewone new one that the merc merchants hints of utah county might organize themselves into a mutual insurance n society and thereby insure our g goods roods against loss by fire I 1 and by so doing keep thousands of d dollars liars at home and in the business I 1 have corresponded with several of the merchants in this county on this very important subject and while awaiting their reply would like to have the subject ventilated in your columns while some of the more solid merchants insure the roost of them do not for various reasons let us who are not the holders of policies organize at once and secure ourselves against loss by fire tire I 1 will give a few facts and figures to show the benefit of such a society in the first place we have very few fires in this county I 1 cannot call to mind but one or two small fires in our line in the past deca if they should increase we can stand the loss better than we can afford tp pay 1 heavily for others to do it for us I 1 have nothing to say against fire insurance companies comp anies probably they are good institutions but remember that the money is for chose those who can earn eara it legitimately and keep it when a drummer comes along we tell him to give us bott bottom oui prices and to figure fine nine and if we ar are e sharp and well posted we will get goods at the lowest prices ehouse the Th house he represents maybe struggling for supremacy and we get them to divide part of their profits with us the next day we will pay out several hundred dollars for an insurance policy I 1 am told we cannot make it binding I 1 think we can i no merchant of ordinary sense would disgrace himself by ref refusing using to pay his quota ot a in case of loss by fire by one of the tu 1 society s say nothing of the position osa it would place him in as ll 11 r I 1 think at least might be re represented resented to start it that would onay only take about twelve stores of eight thousand dollars each we might insure for 75 per ercene er cent that thai would cover W it would cost about 1800 at the present rate of policies es to insure the same amount andua annually I 1 ly in ten years it would amount to The simple simpie interest on the payments at 10 per cent per annum at the end of the ten years would be this added to the sum paid for policies would swell it to the nice little sum im of nearly enough to buy the present stock of goods in the county we could annora afford to loose two or three of these 8 stores every year just look at it lor lor one moment and you will readily see that the present method is a costly one and entirely unnecessary the members might be assessed a small manually su f for or it w would ouid be necessary with some other labors labor sto to have an expert to examine the stock often of each member and ascertain if his stock is up to the standard hoping that some more able abie writer will take up the subject and give it the necessary ventilation so the merchant merchants will take hold and organize at once is my earnest desire it need not be confined to merchants of this county millers dili mechanics and owners of of residences d ances and other property may avail themselves of the opportunity Respect if ully ally MERCHANT pleasant grovo grove feb |
