The two are making a study of the city's sewage disposal pr&blems to determine the type of facilities needed. DR. CLAIR N. SAWYER, DIRECTOR of research and senior member, Metcalf A Eddy, Boston, and Dr. Rolf Eliassen, the firms resident partner, Palo Alto, Calif., Monday completed a study of Industrial water usage and said If the 30 million gallons a day was purchased it would be worth $1,000 a day to the city. We would be derelict in our duty if we did not explore the potential uses of this water in Salt Lake County," said Dr. Sawyer. "This is a great natural resource going to waste, the quality of which is far better than from wells and from Utah Lake." i . - . as ;; If f I tVK I '& vto i 4 ' " f wvA. 4 i ,$ - Vv I BOTH EXPERTS SAID THEY HAD contacted the American Oil Co., In Salt Lake County; the Standard Oil of California, Beeline Refining Co., and the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Davis County, concerning their use of the effluent water. Page and Clifford Leaver sad they spotted an automobile at 3:30 p m. traveling west on Elgin AveifXie (3000 South) at a high rate of speed. They followed the car to a brickyard at 3100-llt- h East, where the driver circled the plant two times, narrowly missing employes, then traveled west on 33rd South to 9th East, The officers said the car made a right hand turn onto 9th East and continued north at speeds in excess of 90 miles an hour. At 3440 South the driver attempted a left turn onto Parkway Avenue and collided with a utility pole. THE OFFICERS SAID they had to break a window in the automobile before they could apprehend the driver. Police reports state the vehicle had been stolen from the Fred A. Carleson Co, 509 S. Main St., earlier Monday. A man booked at city-j- ail gave his name as Albert Lincoln Freeman, 468 Redondo Ave. (2029 South I, HE SAID ANOTHER 4,000 persons will be employed directly In the Industry in 1962, bringing the total employed to 17,100 persons. Supporting industries will bring that figure to near 20.000 persons and that does not Include persons employed in construction of such plants, ORK he added. BIGGEST MISSILE Industry growth will be shown by Hercules Powder Co. at Bacchus which now employes 3,800 persons and will bis employing 6.000 by the end of 1962, he said. "Payrolls In the missile Industry in Utah are running now near the mark and will be in excess of 125 million at the end of 1962, an Increase of near 30 million dollars," Mr. Bernick said. Howard W. Price, vice president and general manager, Salt Lake Hardware Co. predicted a continued high growth for the distributive wholesale and retail Industries of Utah. "UTAH IS ONE of the few distribution centers where the dollar sales at wholesale exceed the total of all retail sales, notwithstanding the difference In values of the Items sold at wholesale compared to those at retail. The reason Is ' because wholesalers supply merchandise into possibly six states, Idaho, western Wyoming and Colorado, Nevada and some areas of Montana and eastern Oregon, he said. UTAHS NEW ROLE as a distributing center, he said, holds great promise for potential growth because the northern part of the state Is the geographical hub of the 11 western states. He cited as examples the several national companies that have established distributing andor accounting centers In northern Utah. HE PREDICTED that dur Ing 1962 many more manufacturers will take advantage of Utah's strategic location to establish regional supply depots. The area Is destined to grow at an accelerated rate and faster than the national CLOUDY K3 FA0 PARTLY CLOUDY SNOW WARM FRONT COLD FRONT STATIC FRONT SCATTERED!
