Show Young Friends Love For President Lee (Presided Harold B. Lw oft on expressed tae and concern for the youth cf the church. The youth. deoth of President Lee. June Lanoeia4, IS, a otonp with many others, hove been deeply aflected by member of the some word os President and Sister tee, the Federal Heights Ward, Emigration Stoce. oove talk in Sunday School, Dec. 3C. The following is excerpted from her talk.) 0 2' We have been so very privileged to have President Lee as a member of our ward. It was a blessing just to see him sit in his chair on the stand, attending our meetings. And always, whenever we would shake hands with him after meetings, or if we met in the halls or on other occasions when we would associate tO' gether, he always left us with some golden thoughts; a word of advice, or of appreciation, or encouragement. Whenever he spoke to us, we received words of wisdom I have never doubted a life hereafter, and I know that President Lee will inherit the highest degree of glory. But what about us? Will we see him again? Will we again be able to associate with such a wonderful being? I wished there was some way I could pay tribute to this man, to show him that 1 loved him. I then realized that the best way for me to pay any tribute to him would be to follow all of his advice to us: to be the kind of daughter of our Heavenly Father that he would approve of; to keep myself clean, humble, untouched of the world; to strive for good characterbuilding qualities; to seek for love by trying to love others as I do myself; try to be kind, sweet, understanding, and helpful; to be positive in all my actions and ban negativism. I must strive to lift my eyes to higher goals and strive for excellence in education and achievements; to grow in every respect morally, intellectually, physically and spiritually. This growth, in short, is what we call eternal progression, and is needed to bring me back to my Father in Heaven. . . . A giant has passed away from us, and left an empty space no one else will ever occupy. In our hearts are memories of a great spiritual leader, an understanding and loving person, a great friend and a wise teacher. May we pay him, as well as the Lord, a tribute by heeding his many warnings and follow his teachings and become a true follower of Christ. .... It has been a real opportunity, privilege and blessing to be able to work so , closely with three of the prophets of God, to -- it at their feet and see how the Lord works through them; and I bear testimo-jny- , without reservation, that these men fwere prophets of God. I There has never been any question in fmy mind about President Lee as a proph-jet- , and I was so pleased that members of jthc church as a whole accepted him so jqmckly and so fully, and were prepared to follow him as one speaking for the sLord. President Tanner then talked of Presi-Icn- t Lees contributions to the church, md of the progress of the church while he was president. His whole desire was to spread the gospel and to help the people understand he mission of Jesus Christ, which he did so ably, lie never missed an opportunity I President Tanner also said, Our beloved president was always working as though he had a deadline to meet, and that he must meet it while running at high speed. He never thought of his own comfort or convenience. We urged him on many occasions to take a little respite, to relax and rest, but he seemed never to be concerned about himself. He wanted to be of service to his fellow men, and I am sure he believed as the Lord has said, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Matt. 25:40) He was determined to do all in his power to further the work of the Lord and to build people. He loved and showed an interest in everyone, and was loved by them. Prior to the funeral, President Lees body lay in state in the Church Administration Building at 47 E. South Temple for a day and a half. Some 15,000 people paid respects to the late prophet.
