But actually most of the county vehicles dont travel the Interstate roads, and have no cause to be driving more than 50 miles an hour, because they are just on county roads, he said. Another change being made in the regualtion of the countys 500 vehicles, is a switch to the motor pool system. Employes will no longer be able to take the county cars home, once the change in regulations is made, according to Gust. Employes were allowed to drive the county cars home because there was no way to watch them. But now the county has its own security system, and they can watch the cars. he said. Employes driving their own cars to work will cut some of the county fuel consumption. Gust also said Im not sure if there was anyone abusing the use of the county vehicles, but once these changes are implemented. I'm sure the stricter controls will help curb the consumption. One possible reason for the increase of gasoline used might be that the new cars purchazed by the county to replace the older vehicles have the new exhaust systems that use more fuel, according to Gust. Within about 10 to 12 days we should have out a complete report on the situation, and thenlefinite guidelines and regulations the county will implement, Gust said.
