james H hart of bloomington bear lake valley the church emiera tion agent at now york having completed the arduous labors of tha the season ho he returned from theeart the east on sunday night the emigration business of the entire year has been accomplished in the most tory manner without a hitch or hindrance of any mom moment nt the number of saints who have come from europe this year has been larger than for any previous year for some rome time back the aggregate being greater by over than in 1881 1831 we learn laam from brother hart that the feeling of intense bitter bitt erness elness n ess that existed in the east some time since sirce towards the saints ha haq modi fled to a remarkable degree this change of sentiment is so pronounced as to 10 plainly indicate the setting in of a decided reaction on the subject be he attributes a portion of this change of feeling to the gratuitous distribution of a considerable number of pamphlets explaining the true position of the latter day saints from their own and end unprejudiced non Mor mormon mormons mons standpoints tan showing owing the value of circulating the right kind of liter ilter literature abroad while in the east numbers of people observing misname his name bame in ife lie journals as mormon agent corresponded with him for the purpose of learning something concerning tho tha latter day saints the following extract from one letter received by him will give an idea of the general purport of each communication ghi lii 1 I received your kind bind and welcome reply to my letter latter and thank you yon for your kindne kindness sas in obliging me I 1 shall go over as soon as I 1 can to attend the meetings I 1 may not have the pleasure of meeting you thera there for a few sundays for your time seems short here but hope to see you soon I 1 am employed all day long and cannot get got off to pay you a visit before you go away but hope hops to eee see you when you come back in march I 1 stand alone with my own thoughts I 1 have for a number of years been trying to get books and papers telling about the latter day saints but could find nothing in this martof part of the country only what I 1 could find in the papers I 1 have written otten often of ten to utah to find out but never got any reply I 1 suppose because I 1 did not write to the proper person I 1 again t thank h ank you and wis hyou a plessant journey ouri and good health and a sa safe fe return to your work in the great city of new york during the progress of the late delegate election brother hart was naturally anxious to receive speedy information regarding it but it appears that the dispatch manipulators considered that the matter was vas going much too favorably a borab I 1 y for t the be great majority of the people to cause them to gush over tha tho figures after aftena a diligent search bearch of the public papers ha ho at last found the following incorrect telegram from salt lake city in a comparatively obscure journal published in the german language election returns show that the total vote cast cut was of 01 this number were cast by cormons mormons Mor mons and by twenty five per cent of the electors registered failed to vote at all had the victory been on the other side the country would doubtless have been flooded with statements to hat effect showing that prejudice suppresses and covers up the truth in every direction V 1 FROSI wednesdays DAILY dally NOV 21 elders returned the following elders eldera who returned from the mia mis flonary field nield in the southern states on monday night
