Show 10 B DESERET NEWS, Wednesday, November 22, 1972 Operating Campaign Contribution Space Not On Tax Forms -- WASHINGTON (UPI) The Treasury Department said Tuesday it had decided not to provide a space on personal income tax forms for taxpayers to check 'off $1 for presidential campaign contributions to the political party of their choice. the Instead, department said, taxpayers will be furnished separate returns to be filled in if they want to authorize a contribution. Hubert H. Humphrey, charged that the decision was a violation of the Sen. spirit, if not the letter, of the 1971 Internal Revenue Act, which permits taxpayers to earmark one of their tax dollars for financing of presidential campaigns. Humphrey said the intent of Congress was for the IRS to provide a box on all income tax forms for the taxpayer to check if he or she wanted to contribute.
