friends in the year 1803 probably in tho the eighth or ninth month I 1 was ono one day alone in the field nield and observed that the sun shone clearly but a mist eclipsed the brightness of it its shining As I 1 reflected upon the singularity of the event evera my mind was struck into silence the most solemn I 1 had ever remembered to have experienced for it foe Fee medas it all ail my faculties were laid low and unusually brought into deep silence I 1 said to myself what does all this mean I 1 do not recollect ever before to have been sensible of such feelings clings le I 1 heard hearda a voice voica from heaven say this thia thou seest which dims the tho brightness of the sun la 19 a sign of the present and coming times I 1 took the forefathers of this country from a land of oppression I 1 planted them here among the people of the forest I 1 sustained them and while they were humble I 1 blessed them and fed them and they became a numerous people but they have forgotten rue who nourished alj atti ali protected them in the tha 8 and are running into every noomi roomi lix natio tion nand and evil practice of which wh ich the old countries are guilty and I 1 have taken quietude from the land and suffered a dividing spirit to come coma among them lift up thino thine eyes and behold I 1 did BO so and saw the people divided in fir great heat ihla rhia division begen begin in th the church on points of doctrine it t commenced in tho the presbyterian society and went through various religion de nominations in omi nations and in its progress and close the effect was nearly the same those who dissented went off with high heads and taunting language and those who kept to tb their air organized sentiments appeared exercised and sorrowful when this dividing spirit entered the society of friends it raged in as h high agh a degree as any I 1 had before die covered and as 03 before those who separated went off with lofty looks and taunting censuring language those these who kept to their ancient principles retired by themselves it next appeared in the lodges of the freo free masons and broke out in appearance pe arance like a volcano inasmuch as it set the country in an uproar for a length of time then it entered politics throughout the united states and did not stop until it prod produced need a civil war an abundance of human blood was shed in the course of the combat the tho southern states lost their power and elavery slavery was annihilated from their borders A monarchial ul power arose took the government of the states established a national religion and made all societies tributaries tributa ries to support its expenses I 1 saw them take property from friendt frienda to a large amount I 1 was amazed at beholding all this and I 1 heard a voce voice proclaim this iwer iwen power powen shall not always stand but with ith this power I 1 will chastise my church until they return to the faithfulness of their forefathers thou sek see seest st what is coming upon apon thy nativa native land for their iniquity and jhb blood of africa the remembrance of which has come up before me this vision Is yet for many days I 1 lad had no
