James T. Aubrey Jr., president of MGM, was quoted as saying the talks included major stockholders of Fox, including theatrical producer David Merrick, who is reported to hold up to 200,000 shares. Aubrey said prelimi-nai- y talks have centered around an exchange of one MGM share for each two shares of Fox stock. Both companies have lost money in recent years. Aubrey, who was named president in October, 1969, has cut costs by selling studio property. Fox President Richard D. Zanuck resigned last mon-- i under pressure. One contest is called the "egg-a-lof-t, which involves placing a fresh egg in the nose cone and then recovering it unbroken. One guy lost control of his rocket and caught his egg right in the face, he laughed. Entertainment Value A peculiar facet of the business is that as the weather worsens, busir-- ss gets better. And because of the high entertainment value at relatively low cost, the business picks up during recessions. Nevertheless, admitted Douglas, Were a luxury and we know it especially during copper strikes. Douglas first got into the business when he was a boy. He made model airplanes out of cigar boxes, painting them with lacquers he bought himself. This was shortly after Lindbergh had flown the Atlantic, "so you know how far back that goes, he said.
