Show A new stake missionary program will get way .the first of the new year and ; Representatives of the Twelve will the explain program at the -first regional meetings of 1971. .. .o- - ; ; A new Priesthood MissionaryalTIandbook for Stake Missions, has been published by the First Presidency for guidance of stake presidencies, stake mission presidencies, bishops and seventy group leaders. Under this new program the ward bishop plays an important and integral part in the missionary work in the stakes. Here are some questions and answers concerning the program as discussed in the new handbook: What is the new missionary program and Q. was it organized? Does it replace the stake miswhy How are these phases carried out? Finding investigators is the responsibility of every member of the Church. Teaching investigators is primarily the responsibility, of the missionaries serving ih the area, and fellowshiping new converts is primarily the responsibility of. Church members and Church organizations. Itv is done under the direction., of j,the' bishop. Home teachers have the obligation to fellowship new members into the programs and organizations of the Church and to encourage them to live the Gospel. Q. Does this mean that all seventies will-b- e involved only with missionary work? A. Although the calling of a. seventy is to be a missionary, they also are part of the ward and should be involved in other activities such as Scouting, MIA, Sunday School or whatever the bishop needs. However, this does not include the teaching missionary. The finding and fellowshiping missionary can be used in these other capacities. However, it should be understood that a seventys primary responsibility is in the missionary field and that they will be made available for teaching assignments whenever their services are needed. Are seventies to be used in home teaching? Q. A. Absolutely yes. When feasible, seventies should be assigned by the bishopric to serve as home Q. A. The . sion? The new missionary program is designed to bring the stake mission under full correlation. It is ward centered and provides that seventies may more effectively work out their specific callings and responsibilities as directed by the Lord in Doctrine & Covenants, Sections 20, 84 and 107. Therefore let every man stand in his own office and calling. . . . That the system may be kept perfect. The new program does not replace the stake mission, only clarifies its duties and functions, q. What role does the bishop play in this program? A.The bishop, has a responsibility for the successful operation of missionary work in the ward including the fellowshipping of new converts. Missionary work within the ward is administered in large measure through .the ward priesthood executive committee and the ward council with the seventies group leader serving as the adviser to the bishop on missionary matters. ? q. what is the role of the stake mission A. teachers to families and and to families in which there are children nine years of age or older who are not baptized. Q. Are just seventies called to be missionaries? A. No. Elders, high priests and women may be called and set .apart to serve as stake missionaries. However, seventies serve as stake missionaries, by virtue of their priesthood office without being set part-memb- er rt stake mission president trains the missionaries, but are there any other training programs scheduled? A. Yes. The stake mission president should be invited by the stake president to give instruction and direction in the stake council meetings on the operation of the missionary program in the stake. Stake priesthood leaders and stake auxiliary heads should instruct and direct their respective organizations in missionary policies and procedures. Also, the seventies group leader, who is the ward mission leader, acting under direction of the bishop and through the ward priesthood executive committee and the ward council, is responsible for the training of all members of the Church in finding Q. It is the responsibility of the stake mission presidency to organize, train and motivate all stake missionaries. What is the relationship between the stake Q. mission president and the bishop? A. The stake mission president is responsible for the training of all stake missionaries. As they reside in the ward, he will correlate with the bishop as to teaching time so there will be no conflict. Q. What is the organizational structure of the New Priesthood Missionary Program? A. Insofar as feasible, missionary work should be done on a ward basis. Each ward should be a district of the stake mission. Stake missions are composed of all seventies residing in each stake. Stake missionary work divides into three fields of activity: finding investigators, teaching investigators, and fellowshiping converts. A.
