STEVEN CHANDLER ,1451 Churchill Downs Rd , manager of L N Curtis and Sons, working with cities and counties in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada My experience as president of Bell Canyon Homeowners Association has made me recognize the great need for developing a unified community of which Sandy citizens can be proud. JACK W. CROWELL ,8993 Cameo Way, certified I feel that my experience and public accountant. education m accounting and financial management would bi advantagous in preparing and controlling a $2 9 milhon annual budget Current problems in Sandy all arise from the tremendous growth in recent years This needs to be controlled and, if necessary, slowed untd services can be provided to meet the needs of our present population. I feel more and better services can be provided without substantially increasing taxes by eliminating the fat in the current budget My background would be beneficial in seeing this accompbshed LLOYD STEVENS ,8706-7t- h Eat, bacteriologist for the State Department of Agriculture. Having been associated with many of the citizens of Sandy, I feel 1 am fully aware of the problems and challenges that face the Sandy City Council I support an open administration, whereby citizens can become more fully aware of changes m zoning, planning, water problems and other concerns If elected, I will do my service organizations t i I i councilman in his second term, is a businessman and As Sandy City councilman high school instructor for four and a half years my voting record totally reflects concern for Sandys citizens. 1 try to represent those citizens most affected by my particular council vote I feel my years on council, the two years I served on the Bicentennial Committee and two years on the planning and zoning commission will help tremendously as mayor. PAUL THOMPSON ,9128 Tern Lynn Dr , attorney, businessman I offer my background as a lawyer, businessman and political science graduate to those who want new leadership and better government from Sandy. My objectives are to create open, responsive, and consistent government; thoroughly the citys planning department; scrap the attempted redevelopment agency, and establish more rule by law as opposed to rule by individuals in city government. Also, I would like to provide better leadership for the City Council, attract business, and work to expand water resources and rebeve traffic congestion JOHN B. BRADY ,9812-57- 0 East, furniture store owner. It is time to curtail our spiraling residential growth that is overloading our services and causing local taxes to increase too fast It is time to have more town meetings so that we can give local government back to tne people we represent, and so that each councilman is more accountable with those he represents I have lived m Union and Sandy all my life and feel that I have an insight into the problems of the city that outsiders do not have Also, I feel my background in business and accounting would be valuable m city budgeting and planmng matters. In high school, I was chosen to represent the region m State Legislative Forum which enabled me to gain a valuable insight into how government runs ELV1N ATKINSON ,8371-7t- h East, owner and his stated goals Bell of Vu Among Nursery operator are. Removing conflicts of interest, establishing concrete zoning ordinances and adhering to state statutes wherever applicable. I would work for equal distribution of water m all areas of Sandy; establish rule of law, and work to develop a better road system and correct traffic congestion There should be more ' j m-- rxy r- 1 W' " 'pu I ' Mr. James fl 7 s 7 munity The week will emphasize the nationwide trend, best to represent the citizens of Sandy in a fair and honest way He said his experience as a bishop and high councilman has taught him to assess situations intelligently and justly. EDWARD JAMES ,9763 Laura Lane Dr., Sandy City planner. Sandy City, since its mception in the mid 1950s, has been faced with unique challenges, 1977 is no different. Our challenge is growth and its impact We must recognize our valley is changing and with this change must come new directions and new solutions. We must join with other communities in the valley in a cooperative effort to solve our special problems I believe the past four years have demonstrated great strides in making Sandy a good place to live, work and play I am running for City Council primarily because I feel Sandy needs to prepare for the decade, not reminisce in the past Estabhshing Sandy Citys ultimate growth, size and need facilities such as water, schools, parks, roads, and commercial areas must be the top priority for the adding emergency services to the traditional fire department tasks of preventing and fighting fires. The parade route begins at the Brigham Young Monument at South Temple and Main streets, travels south on Main to Third South, east to State, then north to Social Hall Ave. Parade floats will be decorated on the theme of smokma danger. At the elementary school presentations, any student who completes a home fire exit plan and has it signed by a parent or guardian will receive a certificate for a free City Council EGILL OLAFSSON ,609 E. Montgomery Dr., credit manager for Intermountain Farmers Association, formerly internal auditor. Incumbent councilman Sandys rapid growth had just started in 1275 when I took office nd the city was lacking in plans in all fields. Achievements include: No mcrease in mill levy, improved water situation, master plan to secure orderly growth, secured sites and plans made for new parks, city shops to be fmished tins year and beautification committee organized. Goals: continued work for new water resources, inform citizens of plans and decisions, renew efforts to reduce taxes, maintain Sandy as a good place to live for old and young people. B. JATviEa EhUiAH ,1500 Greeuwuud Di , supervisor, Granite School District central warehouse. My major priority would be controlbng spirabng residential growth that is overloading municipal services and causing local taxes to increase far too rapidly. I also favor making local government more representative by dividing the city into precincts so that councilmen elected from each district will be accountable to the constituents of the area in which they live. Development of light industry with sensibly paced residential growth would provide local jobs, shift the burden for services away from property owners ana would spur me local economy. cheeseburger at any McDonalds restaurant Fire stations will be open for pubbe inspection from 8 p m. weekdays and from noon to 8 p m Oct 15 Station numbers and addresses are: No. 1, 159 E. 1st South, No. 2, 244 W. 300 North; No. 3, 1085 4-- Simpson Ave ; No 4, 222 I St.; No. 5. 1023 E. 9th South; No. 6, 948 W. 8th South, No. 7, 273 N. 1000 West; No. 8, 258 S. 13th East Others are.
