Show Minatitlan Mexico one of three new stakes; two others in U.S. reorganized MINATITLAN MEXICO STAKE Ignacio Alfonso Cruz was sustained as president of, the new Minatitlan Mexico Stake May 15. Sergio Andres Cancino and Armando Hurriaga were sustained as his counselors. Elder Gordon B. Hinckley of the Council of the Twelve presided at the stake conference. He was assisted by Elder Agricol Lozano, Regional Rep- resentative of SkI: i i E. iU I the Twelve. The new stake, population 3,388, was formed from the Mexico Hermosillo Mission and comprises the Minatitlan 1st, 2nd and 3rd and the Coatzacoalcos 1st and 2nd wards and the Agua Dulce, Allende, Acayucan and San Andres Tuxla branches. Pres. Cruz, 42, was born in Frontera Fabasco, Mexico. He is a convert and joined the Church June 23, 1961, in Mexico. He married Coatzacoalcos, Maria D. Contreras Dec. 31, 1958, and they have eight children. The new stake president, owner of a jewelry store in Minatitlan, served as a branch president, branch secretary, district presidents counselor and elders quorum president. Pres. Cancino, 33, was bom in Mendoza, Mexico. A convert to the Church, he was baptized June 22, 1975, in Minatitlan. He married Rosa R. Larios Nov. 29, 1969, and they have four children. His past positions include Sunday School teacher, branch presidents counselor and branch president. He is director of the Regional Techologi-ca- l Institute of Minatitlan. Pres. Hurriaga, 38, was bom in Veracruz, Mexico. Also a convert to the Church, he was baptized Jan. 16, 1975, in Minatitlan. He married Sara Millan Nov. 18, 1971, and they have five children. Pres. Hurriaga, a field engineer for a fertilizer company, served as a branch clerk, elders quorum instructor and branch presidents DALLAS TEXAS EAST STAKE Arthur Eugene Gabriel, former first counselor in the presidency of the Dallas Texas North Stake, was sustained as president of the new Dallas Texas East Stake May 15. Sustained as his counselors were Rulon Reed Brough and Merwin Dale Blakey. President Ezra Taft Benson of the Council of the Twelve presided at the stake conference. He was assisted by Elder George I. Dana, Regional Representative of the Twelve. The new stake was formed from a division of the Dallas Texas North Stake. Pres. Ivan L. Hobson was retained as president of that stake and Harold Wendell Richmond and L. Hilton Kennedy weri sustained as his new counselors. Pres. Gabriel, 50, was bom in Oceanside, Calif. He is a convert to the Church and was baptized in September 1961, in Dallas, Tex. He married Loa M. Speer April 15, 1958, and they have three children. His past positions include bishops counselor, bishop and stake 14 V CHURCH Ignacio A. Cruz Arthur Gabriel presidents counselor. He is branch manager for General Binding Corp. Pres. Brough, 53, was bom in Logan, Utah. He married Margaret E. Reeves Dec. 25, 1954, and they have four children. Pres. Brough, a manager of management information services for the Southland Corporation, was a bishops counselor, bishop and high councilor in two stakes. Pres. Blakey, 44, was bom in Wyoming, 111. A convert to the Church, he was baptized Oct. 30, 1962, in Denver, Colo. He married Jean C. Van Dran July 12, 1952, and they are parents of eight children. An engineering manager for Texas Instruments, Pres. Blakey served as bishop in two wards and a high councilor in two stakes. Pres. Richmond, 48, was bom in Miller, Neb. He is a convert and joined the Church July 3, 1953, in Nyssa, Ore. He married Beth Ann Markham July 28, 1954, and they have seven children. His past positions include bishop, high councilor and stake presidents counselor. He is vice president for product services for the Equimatics Division of Informatics, Inc. Pres. Kennedy, 41, was born in Smithville, Miss. He married Mary Ann Bartholomew Aug. 18, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have three children. He served as a stake mission president, bishop and high councilor. He is a technical manager in engineering for Recognition Equipment, Inc. I Merrill R. Dimick consists of the Hunter 5th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 15th wards. Pres. Dimick, 38, was bom in Garfield, Utah. He married Sylvia M. Worthen Sept. 4, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have five children. His past positions include bishops counselor, bishop, high councilor and stake presidents counselor. He is director of national marketing of Bonneville Productions, Bonneville International Corporation. Pres. Taggart, was bom in Salt Lake Judith Ann Vance April 20, 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple and they have five children. Pres. Taggart, a controller for Restribco, Inc., served as a ward financial clerk, seventies quorum president and bishop. City. He married Pres. Forsberg, 41, was bom in Logan, Utah. He married Sherrie E. Allen Jan. 16, 1959, in the Logan Temple. They are parents of four children. He was a ward executive secretary, bishops counselor and high councilor. Pres. Forsberg is business manager for the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah. Pres. Terry, 42, was born in Pocatello, Idaho. He married Shirla J. West July 23, 1953, and they have eight children. A district sales manager for Menley and James Labs, Pres. Terry was a bishop in two wards and a high councilor. SALT LAKE HUNTER EAST STAKE PLEASANT GROVE UTAH STAKE Merrill R. Dimick, former second counselor in the presidency of the Salt Lake Hunter Stake, was sustained as president of the new Salt Lake Hunter East Stake May 22. Sustained as his counselors were Steven Laird Taggart and Wilford LeRoy Forsberg. Elder S. Dilworth Young of the First Quorum of the Seventy presided at the stake conference. He was assisted by Elder Wayne Mineer, Regional Representative of the Twelve. The new stake was formed from a division of the Salt Lake Hunter Stake. Pres. Donald C. Harwood was retained as president of the parent stake and Pres. Gearld L. Wright was retained as his first counselor. Morris L. Terry became the new second counselor in the parent stake, replacing Pres. Dimick. The new stake, population 3,150, Evan Mack Palmer was sustained as president of the Pleasant Grove Utah Stake May 15, replacing Pres. Leon R. Walker, who was called as a mission president. He was assisted by Elder Stanley Smith, Regional Representative of the Twelve. The new stake president, 46, was bom in Tremonton, Utah. He married Diane Jenson Aug. 3, 1953, in the Logan Temple and they have five children. Pres. Palmer, chairman of home study at Brigham Young University, served as an explorers adviser, bishop and high councilor in two stakes. Pres. Hill, 54, was bem in Salt Lake Mf Richard L. 1 Chappie City. He is director of the environmental studies laboratory at the University of Utah Research Institute. Pres. Greenwood, 44, was born in Murray, Utah. He married Claudine Baird Sept. 11, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have six children. Pres. Greenwood, coordinator of secondary guidance for the Provo City School District, was a bishop and stake presidents counselor. TALLAHASSEE FLORIDA STAKE Richard Lynn Chappie was sustained as president of the Tallahassee Florida Stake May 15. He replaces Pres. Jay N. Lybbert, who was called as a Regional Representative of the Twelve. Sustained as Pres. Chappies counselors were Lincoln Barlow and Charles H. Madsen Jr. Elder John II. Vandenberg of the First Quorum of the Seventy presided at the stake conference, and Elder Robert Brady, Regional Representative of the Twelve, assisted. The new stake president, 33, was born in Payson, Utah. He married Kay S. Robison June 9, 1966, in the Manti Temple. They have four children. Pres. Chappie, a professor of Russian at Florida State University, served as a stake executive secretary, seminary teacher, district councilor and Sunday School president. Pres. Barlow, 59, was bom in Crosland, Ga. A convert to the Church, he was baptized May 24, 1942, in Moultrie, Ga. He married Mildred Dunn Aug. 12, 1939, and they are parents of six children. His past positions include branch president, district presidents counselor, counselor to six mission presidents and stake presidents counselor. Pres. Madsen was bom in Price, Utah. He married Diane Broadbent Dec. 20, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are parents of five children. He was a district executive secretary, elders quorum president, YMMIA superintendent, district councilor, branch president, district presidents counselor and high councilor. He is a professor of psychology at Florida State University. |
