Midvale Mayor Boyd Twiggs told the board that in 30 days the city should have bids on remodeling and expanding the Sewage Treatment Plant and we should know what we can do, Twiggs said the pfant Will be operating zt capacity until it can be expanded. In addition, he said, the plant is totally worn out," He said maintenance has been neglected, apparently with the idea that it would all be taken care of in the remodeling. David B, Brinton, Health Department suburban sanitdrian. said that with one Environmental Protection Agency study on Salt Lakes water quality program has been finished and another is underway. He said that within six months officials will know what needs to be e done immediately and over a period. Not only is there a light at the end of the tunnel, but the tunnel isn't very long:" said Brinton, questioning the -necessity of imposing the extreme" measure of moratorium. Dr. Harry Gibbons, health director, said that the moratorium would not affect single-famil- y housing. The board was told that the Health Department svill lay off five nurses, three sanitarians and two general staff to balance its budget. Other measures planned or already implemented include cutting out the Lark and Redwood clinics, renegotiating the venereal disease contract and ending the Jordan River cleanup and Indian Outreach City-Count- y ' SO-d- - - , : : : : , 41,- - 139 - I ""ri.irs;.
