Show FACTORY big woolen mills building goes up tip in flame no insurance loss the brigham city woolen mills building was completely destroyed by fire tuesday forenoon the fire is supposed to have lave stat stait t ed from a spark caused by the machine used tor for making cotton and wool bats owned by sir mr john anderson and run by frank minson alinson it was kown hown that such a thing might happen and a bucket or two of water was kept hept constantly on hand 11 in case ot of emergency but this time it got the best of them the machine which tears up the rags from which the bats are made revolves very rapidly fly and it if the teeth come in contact with any metal like a nail or a needle for instance it is like likely I 1 y to spark and if a spark touches those hose bats they burn like powder the alarm was sounded promptly 11 and n d the bos responded as readily but there are no water mallis mains in that vicinity and the they had no engine or pump so acie cie powerless to check the flames which spread rapidly to all parts of the building it was the biggest and hottest fire we were ever permitted to see sea mr minson who was running the machine worked so hard to put out the fire and sale sae some of the property that he became exhausted and had to be helped to a place of safety ills his condition was so serious that a doctor was sent for drs harding harding responding his heart threatened at one time to stop stoll and re stora tives had to be applied he ia 9 still badly unstrung the building was owned by the brigham city woolen mills company a corporation composed principally of local people they lost heavily as the building carried no insurance the brigham city shoe company also composed principally of local people were losers to a considerable extent that is three of the stockholders were J D call S IN lee and joseph jensen of garland recently assumed the entire burden of the concern taking over the machinery and this machinery was all in the building mr air john andersons loss will perhaps not exceed 1000 ile he carried SOO iii insurance surane on the machi machinery nerv he had about borth of rags on hand and about woith of bats on which was no insurance A good many mani of the rags were saved but the bats went with the rest this is the second fire that flat has oc curled cuned on this identical site just 30 years ago the 2011 of next december the first woolen mills erected in this city burned to the ground it was also a total loss the present building was put soon afterwards and was a magnificent structure a credit to the city |
