for the their ir perusal the kimball monument is s a massive handsome squarely built structure of red sandstone and marble resting testing upon two bases of granite the whole in height about fifteen feet from the ground the lower base is over six feet square the upper beaw between een four and five feet square upon this rests a square base of sandstone on the west side of which is tie tio tle the single word kimball carved in in large letters above this on the four corners are ornamented buttresses of the same minte material rial supporting a die como composed s 0 d of four massive marble plates plate nicely carved three of them covered with lettering these are sheltered by a cap of red stone which also forms the base of a pyramidal marble spire whose apex terminates the monument on the die facing the west is inscribed in memory of heber chase kimball with dates and places of his birth and death the former june 14 1801 sheldon vermont vermon t the latter june 22 1868 salt lake
