The machine back together and were ready to roll in the morning, a spokesman for the Blue Flame said late Monday night after the crew had worked most of the morning on the land speed record car. We want to get out of here, so were going to try for the record this morning. The Flame was recovering from a high speed trip across the Bonneville Salt Flats late Sunday which ended, up with driver Gary Gabelich walking back three miles to where he left the course. The car was hitting close to 550 miles an hour when the braking parachutes failed to open and the car was unable to stop. After the car was pulled out of its predicament and taken back to the pit areas for a thorough inspection', the crew determined that no major damage was received and the car was put back together. One item changed was the left front tire which lost 60 pounds of the 350 pounds per square inch of air it carries overnight. That in itself was a major chore, but the crew felt it would be wise to make the precautionary change. The injector nozzles which feed the fuel into the combustion chamber of the rocket engine were determined to be too small and were taken to Salt Lake to be bored out.
