David Shut-in- s News notes AT HOME AND ABROAD Mother of Patriarch Dies Mrs. Martha Gee Smith, 85, wife of former Patriarch to the Church, Kyrum G. Smith, and mother of Elder Eldred Gee Smith, present Patriarch, died this week in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Smith had served in the Relief Society and Young Womens Mutual Improvement Assn, organizations, was tlie first hostess at the Lion House Social Center, and was active In civic and cultural affairs. She is survived by three sons, six daugh30 and 41 greatters, grandchildren grandchildren. Chapels Ready for Dedication Dedications of ten chapels and two seminary buildings in the United States and England have been approved by the General Authorities. In England, Elder Mark E. Petersen of die Council of the Twelve will dedicate the Medway Brandi Chapel May 31; the Colchester Branch Chapel on May 28, if all indebtedness is cleared; the Chelmsford Branch Chapel, May 30, all in the British Mission. He is also scheduled to dedicate the Newton Aycliffe Ward Chapel and the Middlesbrough Ward Chapel in Sunderland Stake, England, May 19. Elder Bernard P. Brockbank, Assistant to the Twelve, will dedicate the Darbun Branch Chapel in Hattiesburg Stake, Mississippi, on May 26. The Murray 15th, 18th Wards Chapel in Murray Stake, Utah, will be dedicated May 26 by Elder LeGrand Richards of the Council of the Twelve. In Pennsylvania, the Valley Forge Ward and Philadelphia Stake House will be dedicated May 26 by Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the First Council of the Seventy. Hie New Bern Ward Chapel In die North Carolina Stake will be dedicated by Pres. Cecil E. Reese at a date to be set later. The Logan High School Seminary, used by the Logan, Mt Logan, Cache and East Cache Stakes, In Utah, will be dedicated May 19 by Elder Spencer W. Kimball of the Council of the Twelve. The Bountiful-MillcreeSeminary in Bountiful South Stake (Utah) L scheduled to be dedicated June 2 by Elder LeGrand Richards. The Ontario Institute of Religion building at k 2 CHURCH WEEK ENDING MAY 18, 1968 Nyssa Stake in Oregon was dedicated, May 12, by Elder Theodore Tuttle, First Council of the Seventy. The Jackson Ward Chapel in Lansing Stake, Michigan, will be dedicated May 19th by Elder S. Dilworth Young of the First Council of the Seventy. Papyri: Symposium Subject Peart of Great Price Papyri: Their Discovery and Significance for Mormon Theology, will be the subject of a symposium Monday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Utah Union Ballroom, sponsored by a U. of U. student gioup, the American Society for the Middle East The significance of die ancient manuscripts will be discussed by Dr. Aziz S. Ativa, U. of U. distinguished professor of history, who was instrumental in procuring the documents for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints; and Dr. Hugh W. Nibley, professor of his toy and religion, Brigham Young University. Once owned by the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith, the manuscripts were believed to have been destroyed in the Chicago fire of 187L Dr. Atiya, former director of file U. Middle East Center, discovered them more than a year ago in the Egyptian section of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art Volleyball Standing Corrected The YMMIA Athletic Committee has corrected is standings in the recent Volleyball tournament held at the Deseret Gym in Salt Lake City. BYU 24th Ward won second place in the tournament, and not BYU 9th Ward as earlier reported. - BYU Gains Laboratory Construction is under way on a new underground physics laboratory to be used primarily for graduate research at Brigham Young University. The laboratory, 177 feet long and 60 feet wide, will be located just north of and connected with the Karl F. Eyring Physical Science Center. It will consist of one large room 17 feet higii 0. McKay Day Observance Suggestions for the observance of National and International Shut-in- s Day, June 4, were contained in a letter from the Presiding Bishopric to all stake presidents and bishops. It was urged that announcements of the observance of Shut-In- s Day be made in all ward meetings and that members invite a shut-i- n to attend Church, whenever possible, as well as to visit those who are unable to leave their homes. It is also suggested that bishops use this occasion to write to, or otherwise show renewed interest in their ward members who are shut-inSpecial visits by home teachers also are deemed very appropriate.
