Show WhaFs - r am your ' wwvvw By JACK E. JARRARD 4. The priesthood responsibility of the genealogy program is going to be stressed heavily in the priest- -' hood meetings held in conjunction with the stake conferences in the second and fourth quarters of 1967. Elder Theodore M. Burton, Assistant to the Council of the Twelve and managing director of The priesthood Genealogy Committee, emphasizes that a 'member of the committee will be assigned during the two quarters. In addition to the instructional sessions, in the Saturday afternoon of stake conference with key people in the stake, the committee member will present a program at the Saturday evening priesthood " ' meeting. The purpose of this meeting is complete involvement of everyone attending. An open discussion with six pertinent questions will be given. The stake president will be requested to assign one of these six questions to each of the following: a bishop, a high council member, a high priests group leader, an elders president or group leader, a home teacher, and an executive secretary for home teach, ing on a ward level. The significance of home teaching is being stressed more and more and the responsibility of the home teacher in the genealogy program will be thoroughly outlined. As Elder Burton points out the home teachers shouldLxnoJivatethe Jamily by teachingthem the blessings of returning to the temple as often as possible so that they might continue to learn the requirements of celestial life. Home teachers also should endourage the husband and wife, to attend the schools established by the bishop in the Aaronic Priesthood Adult program so these people can qualify to go to the temple for their own endowments and sealing. In his position, the home teacher can encourage the family members to Secure temple recommends and inform the family when stake temple days are scheduled and invite the family to go with him and his wife on a regular basis. The home teacher isnt expected to be an expert In the work of genealogy, but he should, however, have a preliminary knowledge of how to fill in an ordinary family group sheet. When asked about specific problems they should arrange for a trained expert to visit the family to give necessary instruction. The home teacher should teach the father of the house, and seek counsel and guidance as should be required in the genealogy program and in seeing that each family has been to the temple and sealed to each other. On the counsel that each family should have a if he is a book of remembrance, the home teacher successful home teacher can say to the family, follow me. If the home teacher could take his book of remembrance to a family who is to be motivated into keeping one of their own and show how interesting such a project can be, he can be successful. Another way, says Elder Burton, is for the home teacher to complete a group sheet of a family he is motivating from membership cards in the ward and take it to the family. This could show incomplete records in many cases and motivate families to begin a family record book of their own. This Saturday night priesthood program will clearly show to those who hold the priesthood what their responsibilities are in the genealogy program of the Church.
